Has anybody been told by their co-teachers that they must be back in Korea a week before their vacation? I am teaching at a public middle school and have just been told this. My co-teacher has told me the government has implemented this for all public school teachers that it wasn't just my school. Is this even allowed? |

Sorry they may have said it was the provincial education office that implemented this. I am not totally sure but they said it was for all public school teachers not just foreign teachers. |

THat doesn't make sense. You're already in Korea before you're vacation so how can you not be here? |

If they meant you're supposed to be here the week before it ends, I'd say screw them. It's illegal and against a persons free right to travel. |

Don't tell them anything. Just take your vacation as planned then apologize later. |

Easier to ask for forgiveness in many cases. Rarely will you get an exception to a rule if you openly plan for it. Just do it and stay quiet and maybe you'll go unnoticed. I got the full two months of winter vacation in PS by just going and not mentioning anything. No one missed me and no one complained. I'm gonna do the same this summer. |

Consider yourself lucky you even know when your vacation is. I have no idea. I wasn't told about tests this week until Wednesday. |

They're ordering you to spend the 2nd week of your 2 week international vacation back in Korea as to detox in self quarantine.
What province are you in?
Does taking a boat to Japan from Busan present a quaranteen issue? I haven't yet heard about anyone in Busan being quaranteened as they come off the boats.
No one has said anything to me about this issue other than discussing when my vacation is to be. |

I am with GEPIK, Gyeongido province. I just emailed one of the GEPIK coordinators and they said this question has been asked alot. They do not know where the information is coming from as well. Maybe my school meant it as a recommendation but many of the Korean teachers at my school (middle school) have or are going to change their travel plans. I don't know who ordered this but I thought I would ask others who may be in the same situation as me. |

2 golden rules in Korea
1) snip - smile, nod, ignore, proceed
2) see number one, and don't ask stupid questions especially about innately stupid things, like one week quarantine, more questions you ask, more stupid answers you will get.
why would I care what the Korean teachers are doing for their vacations?
these are the same people who participated in mad cow demonstrations
I know what I am doing for mine. |
