I don't know why, but for this to happen in politically-correct Canada just strikes me as so funny Laughing

Lesbian youth at high risk for pregnancy: UBC study

VANCOUVER - Lesbian and bisexual youth are up to seven times more likely to get pregnant than their heterosexual peers, a study of British Columbia students has found. The surprising findings were published in the Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality. The data used for the research were gathered from adolescent health surveys done in B.C. schools in 1992, 1998, and 2003.

The heightened risk is explained by several factors, including an attempt among closeted gay, lesbian and bisexual teens to prove they are heterosexual to avoid harassment and discrimination. For some gay, lesbian and bisexual teens its camouflage, said Elizabeth Saewyc, lead author of the study and an associate professor at the University of B.C.s school of nursing, because its still pretty stigmatized and they still face a lot of harassment at school.

Results from the surveys, which were conducted anonymously among about 30,000 students in grades 7 through 12, indicated as well that boys are more likely to cause a pregnancy if they identify as gay or bisexual.

Talk about being unclear on the concept! Laughing

So gay teens are knocking up lesbian teens to hide their homosexuality? Uh, OK. The terms, then, are becoming meaningless. Wouldn't it be better to stop focusing so much on with whom one does stuff and just accept that there are all kinds of people and relationships out there?

I must, however, doubt the results. This is one study I'd like to see replicated.

But not gay (male) teens? How do you know that anyway?

When did I say that?

Primarily through anecdotal experience regarding girls at my own school and the schools of various acquaintances who acted in such a fashion during late middle and early high school and "grew out of it," combined with an assumption that our schools were not exceptional. Perhaps not enough evidence to constitute "scientific proof," but sufficient for me to feel comfortable making a casual statement.

If you don't think it's right, I'm certainly not going to argue it, and if you wanted to provide some firm evidence to dissuade me I'd be open to it.

When did I say that?

It was a question occasioned by your failing to mention them along with "'teen' lesbians and bisexuals."

I think you probably are right, since there is a certain amount of experimentation that goes on in adolescence. Also, we know that, according to Kinsey, 60% of pre-adolescent boys engage in homosexual activities, 37% of males have had at least one homosexual experience to orgasm between adolescence and old age, while only 5-10% (according to best estimates) self-identify as homosexual.

I don't recall the figures for females, but they are likely to be somewhat lower yet still significant.

If you must know, I didn't mention them because unlike with teen lesbians, I have almost no anecdotal evidence regarding gay teen males. Our high school had precisely one "openly" gay male, meaning others who may have considered themselves gay or experimented did so in privacy, while the girls were often less secretive (and some even flaunted it). Others I have spoken to have had similarly lacking data.

Please interpret my lack of a comment regarding gay teen males as an "I don't know," not an "It's not so."

OK, then you meant to say "'teen' lesbians and female bisexuals" which is what occasioned the misunderstanding. I thought you were referring to both male and female bisexual teens.
