Hi,
I along with 5 friends will be travelling to Boracay In January and am in need of some info. Can anyone tell me of some good places to stay there? We're looking for some place cheap but don't want to miss out on the fun. From what I've read, it sounds like station 2 is where we want to be, but is it that bad of a walk to get to station 2 from station 3 or is it worth it to pay the extra for a spot in station 2? We're going in mid Jan so should we book a place to stay in advance or will we be safe in just finding a place when we get there?

I stayed at station 3 at a quiet resort about 3 minutes from the beach. http://www.orchidsboracay.com/index.htm American owned. It was about a 15 minute walk to where the "action" was. Mainly the more expensive hotels and eating places. It does come in handy if resort is close by if you are totally wasted instead of walking all the way back to station 3. Really depends on what you like.

I'll be in Boracay Jan 20th-30th

Just bought my flight last week but haven't booked any place to stay yet.

Considering Dave's Straw Hat Inn (station 3) based on price and reviews. Will probably only book my first 3 nights in advance so that I can check places out once I get there.

I'll be traveling alone and if anybody wants to meet up there just shoot me a PM or post in this thread.

Did they have free wifi there?

I'd always rather see a place firsthand than book off internet promos.

Boracay is pretty small & simple to figure out. When I went (a few years ago, granted) I just let the helper on the boat over know I needed a place to stay & gave him an idea of my budget & wants.

He led me around (even carried my bag) to 2 or 3 places till I found one I really liked. He got a kickback from the guesthouse & I tipped him something like $5 as well. Smiles all around.

Boracay is cool. Have fun.

I stayed at "Roy's Rendezvous," I think at station 2. But I second what Schwa says. Finding a nice place will not be an issue. The touts can be persistent, but they will help you find a place you like. Boracay is not a big island, and walking around will not be an issue. You can even rent a little motorbike.

Best sunsets I have ever seen in my life!

Thanks for all the help, so I should be safe in finding a place when I get there and not have to worry about booking in advance? I'll be there from the 9th-17th ish so I think I'll be avoiding the peak season. If it's only a 15 minute walk I'll probably stay at station 3. Thanks again for the help.

The whole island is only 7km long and 800 meters wide for most of that length.

Get off at the terminal, take a trike to D'mall and head for the beach. Turn left when you hit the sand and walk till you find a place and price that you like.

Things have been slow so by mid Jan there should be NO TROUBLE finding a place on the beach for a decent price or off the beach (or the back side of the island) for even less.

Saging-saging (on the beach on the back side of the island) usually has fan rooms for as little as p500 after the Christmas rush ends around Jan 7. Great place to learn how to wind surf or kite surf.

What are the price ranges for Boracay hotels? Just curious if the (pre-book) prices I see online via reputable sites are similar. I always research then book ahead on foreign travel, but want to see if this is a good time to avoid that.

low end - p500 for a fan room a couple rows back from the beach (note that there are NO rooms directly on the beach).

High end = p20,000+ per night. There is a resort and price for everyone somewhere in between those two.

http://www.boracay.com gives you prices that are close to usual for most places but they are negotiable for stays longer than 3 days or during slow times.
