|
|
After a search I couldn't find much on this specific topic, so I ask:
Question one:
I am wondering what resume format one should use when hunting Korean Uni Jobs.
1. One or Two pages? n (I'm used to the cut-it-to-one-really-good-page approach but can expand)
2. Order of information (after name and contact at the top, obviously)
I'm thinking 1. ESL exp. 2.ESL cert 3. Other work 4. Other education, but I have a JD (and no MA TEFL/CELTA) so I want to emphasize that ... three years of bickering about every comma and word should count for something!
3. Include the cheesy (IMHO) "mission" statement anywhere? At the top?
4. I've learned a fair bit of Korean for being here sub-one year and also study Taekwondo and Baduk ... should I include a "Korean culture" section or something like that?
Question two:
How do I go about getting Korean references? My school has asked me to stay an extra month which I doubt I'll do as I'd rather go home ... I'm a little concerned this will make them unhappy.
Should I have other Koreans vouch for me (my TKD instructor likes me and his wife just opened a hagwon). Obviously I wouldn't fake employment or anything like that.
What about US references? Should I translate old rec letters into Korean
Question three:
Any other advice?
Thanks in advance.

First, as you may know, you're already a bit late for many of the jobs starting this Fall. You could squeeze into something if the people a particular school tries to hire disappear for some reason (happens a lot).
1. Two pages will likely be needed, unless you're a recent grad., IMHO.
2. There are several good Microsoft resume templates. I think you should put your education in order which you received it (Most recent to oldest).
3. You can add a mission statement, but it's not required, IMHO.
4. Couldn't hurt, if you keep it brief and to the point
Korean references could be coworkers from your previous school/schools -- even your TKD instructor, although he would be less important than a reference from a teacher. I had one write up a page for me in Korean, and I hand that in with all resumes. It has proven to be an excellent thing to have!
No need to translate old references, if you wish to include them. I'd say they should be teaching-related, if at all possible. |
