You read crap like this: http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200907/divorce , and then you turn around and wonder how women have the nerve to complain that men "don't want to grow up" and are "afraid of committment". Look who's talking.

Loh had been married for 20 years when she decided she wanted a divorce. She and her husband have two elementary-school-aged children. She has nothing bad to say about her husband, but seemingly the magic just wasn't there any longer. Loh's oblique way of letting us know about her extramarital affair is to say that her "commitment to monogamy...came unglued." (Can you hear Mark Sanford or Eliot Spitzer saying that?)

And having done so, she found that "I would not be able to replace the romantic memory of my fellow transgressor with the more suitable image of my husband..."

Glenn Sacks has a great rejoinder to this article here: http://glennsacks.com/blog/?p=3928

Why do we still insist on marriage? Sure, it made sense to agrarian families before 1900, when to farm the land, one needed two spouses, grandparents, and a raft of children. But now that we have white-collar work and washing machines, and our life expectancy has shot from 47 to 77, isnt the idea of lifelong marriage obsolete?

"I selfishly betrayed my husband, so instead of just taking responsibility for my poor decision, let me instead try to convince you that the entire idea of a committed marriage is one we should abandon."

Perhaps if she has a problem with committed marriage, she could have divorced, then screwed around. It would have allowed her to speak from a much stronger position.

Was watching CSI NY the other night and the pregnant scientist says to the cop (father of the unborn child when he asks her to marry him) 'No.'
At the end she comes clean that they should marry for love not duty, yet still, there's no marriage on the table.
So, the new message is: Even he's a good guy, just get him to pay child support, live with your child in a single parent (woman) house.
Too bad for the child though when she has new sexual partners in and out the house. That's invariably what does happen.

There it is, all right there. No disrespect meant to the mods, but this woman is simply rationalizing the fact that she is an asshole, in the deepest, most profound sense of the concept.
