You can change won into baht at the airport. You can also wait till you get to Thailand and exchange your money. It depends on the exchange rate. It is probably cheaper to exchange your money in Korea before you go. The banks may have a cheaper rate than at the airport.
Having said that, there are many exchange places in Thailand that will exchange your won if you are stuck. |

There are banks that close at 4pm, I believe. Then there are money exchange boths that stay open later, sometimes till 9 or 10pm in the Khao San road area. |

Hmmm. Someone claims won can not be exchanged? Let's put two and two together here, shall we?
1. There are large shopping areas in Bangkok that cater to Koreans.
Most Koreans come with won if they're carrying cash on the plane to
Thailand. They're gonna want to exchange at least some of their stash
after arriving in Thailand. This is a demand. In a capitalist economy,
demand is supplied, especially in tourism.
2. There are banks in Bangkok that have big signs out front that say
'currency exchange'. The far, far majority of arrivals from Korea come
through the international airport in Bangkok. This airport alone has
several of these bank branches that offer currency exchange.
3. Currency exchange is profitable.
It's incredible the shit that gets spread around the expat communities. People who don't know about these things should simply keep their traps shut.
Can't exchange won for baht in Thailand? You'll see how ridiculous this claim is within minutes after arriving. |

Yes, you can exchange won for baht in Thailand, but the rate is horrific. Your won isn't going to buy much baht. On my last trip, I exchanged won for dollars at KEB. Then, I exchanged those dollars for baht in Thailand. I did the calculations, and there was a big difference. |

Listen to the guy above. Don't take won to any country to exchange it. I took a big lump of 10000 won bills to Thailand last year and exchanged them on Koh san rd and the rate was so low. I should have brought yankee dollars. |

Naturally, part of that difference lies in the fact that the rate for buying is different from the rate for selling at the exchange. Also, the demand for baht on Kaoh Sarn Road will be a teeny bit more than the demand for baht at the airport in Incheon FLIPSIDE The demand for won will be a teeny bit more at the Incheon airport than on Kaoh Sarn Road.

I'm going to Thailand July 25 (not sure what my travel destinations are just yet).
I was thinking about bringing both baht and dollars to Thailand. Would you recommend doing both of these (since dollar gets better value there)?:
1. exchange won to baht at KEB and
2. exchange more won to US dollars at KEB to bring to Thailand
Also, I'm planning on possibly going to Cambodia for a couple days. Should I bring dollars or baht there? |
