| Yes that's a great service (first one) but unfortunately it utilizes ActiveX. |

Are you new to Korea?
The most important thing for using the bus the first time is to use the first site and count your stops, or find a landmark and count your stops. If you're going somewhere unfamiliar, you should realize its going to be pretty hard to ask for directions on the bus if your korean isn't up to scratch. While stops are announced the names of the stops are not always descriptive. oh..the hyundai apartments.. well this must be where I want to get off....
daum maps also gives bus routes, but unfortunately they seem to only sort routes by lowest transfer amount and not quickest trip (at least the iphone/ipod touch version of their maps) Daum is great though because it has street view, if you're looking for a restaurant, building/etc you can jump into street view around your destination and see if you can spot it before you go. |

Nope I am not new and use buses frequently. I can read hangeul no problem and speak enough Korean to find my way around easily. But, sometimes it's nice to plan your trip ahead and the first page comes handy then.
My comment was meant just as criticism against ActiveX on Korean web pages. |

Yeah, basically all Korean websites have like 3 ActiveX plugins, 4 popups, are completely cluttered with a bunch of moving flash animations, are completely unusable on any browser except IE6, and require you to log-in using a Korean citizen number you don't have.
There's nothing you can do about it except maybe get a Korean girlfriend and make her use the website to get the information for you. |

Yep but there seems to be some change to better. For example this site http://emap.visitkorea.or.kr/Scripts/EngMap.aspx seems to use quite similar map engine as the bus map but not involving ActiveX. So, maybe the bus map could be re-designed ActiveX-free as well.
And no need to bother girlfriend, just gotta use Windows & IE inside OS X, which is annoying though.
Since the OP seems to have connections to (Gyeonggi-do) government, maybe he could do something about getting rid of ActiveX on websites important to foreigners. |

| Is ActiveX really that bad? I use it on certain websites and nothing bad has ever happened. |

The biggest problem is that ActiveX excludes any other platforms than MS Windows + Internet Explorer causing trouble to users of Mac OS X or any other browser than IE in Windows.
Mac (and linux) users are just a minority but especially in Europe browsers such as Firefox have gained substantial popularity. However, Windows users have easy access to IE, therefore ActiveX doesn't cause them a major problem..
But, even if not considering foreigners with strange operating systems and browsers, Korean government has created an MS + IE monopoly in Korea by making the ActiveX based security system the standard in online banking, forced by law. |

| Man, and I remember not so long ago when it just came down to whether you were able to read the small signs with Korean words or not at each stop. |

Oh wonderful! Now if I just knew what buses to take to Chungmuro this morning, I wouldn't have wasted an hour on two buses and a taxi trip to my class!!!
Thank you!
The subway would have been much easier, but I hoped the red bus would be quicker. |
