I started a conversation with one of my students today. He has a good level of English but it is pretty obvious he is getting pretty turned off English. I asked a couple of questions and got reluctant answers. Next, I happened to ask what he will be doing this summer vacation. Again he seemed reluctant but I tried again. Then he asked, "Do know CDI?" to which, I replied yes. I opened my mouth to speak again at which point he turned his back on me and in an irritated voice said, "Stop talking to me. I've got to memorize 360 words!"

This boy is only fifth grade at elementary school. No wonder people talk about older students here just sleeping or being totally disengaged.
