| Haha, welcome to the boards. I think recently a lot of the teachers here have been upset about prejudices against them. I'm not sure though, won't be in Korea for another 3 weeks. |

I wasn't going to post anymore but this caught my eye.
Honestly if you're in a large or medium sized city, I don't think there are many inconveniences. Subway and road signs are in English. Taxi's offer translation services. Most modern restaurants have English menus and there are a dozen and two numbers to call to ask for help.
But if I really wanted to get picky, I suppose the city buses could have the names of the stops said outloud after the Korean name is given. Also on the country buses, it can be hard to determine where you are if the bus stops in rural areas like mine. When I first got here it was a bugger to find out where I was because the driver wouldn't say the name of the hick-town.
The cultural things you cant really change, ie: stares, pointing, snickering, cutting in line etc....
But overall I think Korea is pretty convenient. |

I think that a lot of expats aren't aware of your services. So, maybe some sort of advertising campaign to let people know what you do. Write something up about your services and ask a MOD to make it a sticky on this board.
Once more people know that you are there, then you will see more kinds of requests come your way.
Do you have a website? |

I had no idea about this... I didn't even know there were services for foreigners beyond the basic, necessary stuff!
Then again, my public school usually treats me like a caged beast. Just last week they were trying to sacrifice a goat to appease me. |

Hi, I'm Josh in Gyeonggi-do Call Centre in Suwon.
I just want to know problems you face each day as foreign residents in Korea in order to provide the better service in future through 031 120. |
I don't actually *want* this service (I didn't come here to eat greasewheels for dinner), but there was this one time...I'll give you this example:
| Quote: |
Dominoes Pizza.
Now, I can order a pizza, no problem. I can order individual toppings or a supreme (what you folk call a "combination"). I can order one pizza or two.
But I don't have a Dominoes menu. I don't have a number to call. I'm out in the sticks, so I see a Dominoes driver maybe once a month if that. So here's the conversation I would have back in the states:
<call 411 Directory Assistance>
1. 411, please say the listing you want.
2. Dominoes Pizza.
3. Please say the City.
4. Podunk Arkansas.
5. That number is 123-456-7890.
<hang up. call Dominoes.> *ringring*
1. Thank you for calling Dominoes, will this be for carry-out or delivery?
2. Delivery.
3. Is you address 123 West Main Street? (Caller ID)
4. Yes.
5. What would you like?
6. What are your specials?
7. Do you want one pizza, two, or more?
8. Just one.
9. We have two one-pizza specials right now...etc.
In Korea:
<call tourist hotline>
1. Tourist Hotline, how can I help you?
2. Do you have a phone number for the Dominoes Pizza closest to 사라사라리?
3. No, but I have the national number, would you like it?
4. ...no, thanks.
Then I go get shin raymeon. |
Maybe if I could have a Korean person with a conferencing feature on the other end of the phone, I could have enjoyed my delicious pizza instead of my cup of noodles. |

I like living here and stay for a reason so there aren't many inconveniences that I can think of.
It'd be cool if the roads were cleaner though.
If I learned more Korean most of the 'inconveniences' would go away I would think. |

Korea is convenient for living in, but the people are pretty unpleasant. In Daegu, everyone is extremely rude.
I'm not sure how a call centre could fix that. |

Well of course, that's the thing. I can walk into a proper Mexican restaurant and order the six taco plate, three with ground beef, three with grilled steak, sour cream on the side, to go. |

| Joshua, do you have the phone number for a good blood transfusionist? I'd like to schedule an appointment to remove my 외국 blood and install 100% pure Korean blood. I imagine if I did that..then most of my inconveniences might go away as well. Thanks for your help. |

I do. Have him get you a call taxi to the train station and head for Gumi! The crowd there is head and shoulders above the Daegu crew in terms of class. Daegu English teachers are some of the most unfriendly, passive-aggressive, brain-damaged fools I've ever had the displeasure of associating with, which I do rarely.
