International Dell Warranty Service - how I did it

Just had my Dell serviced under warranty that I brought from Canada and wanted to relate the experience:

1. Got some blue screens ran diagnostics found out the memory is gone on the video card.
2. Called dell international warranty (well had a korean do it) and ask for an english speaker.
3. They said they'd find him and call me back.
4. He called back a couple hours later and I explained the error code I got when running the video memory test.
5. He got my service tag and said they'd send someone asap. He asked me to transfer my warranty to korea for ease of service in the future. He emaile me a link to do so.
6. The next morning they called and said the part was not there yet. My system m1710 isn't a supported system in Korea they had to get the part from singapore.
7. 2 days later they called again and said they'd come out this morning to replace it (about 4 business days since I called)
8. The guy came, I showed him the error, he gave me a new motherboard and a slight video card upgrade (my laptop had a 7900GTX now it has a 7950 GTX)
10. He was fast, polite, didn't speak much english, did the whole job in about 30 minutes.

All in all it was quite a nice experience. I was 82 days from the end of my 3 year warranty on my laptop. Glad I got the 3 years and not the 2 years.

If anyone needs to contact international Dell warranty shoot me a PM, I'll send you the guys Dell Email address if you don't have anyone who can call the number for you and request an english speaker. The phone system itself was a little complicated, a couple departments bounced us around until my friend yelled at them. It's probably better to email this guy directly if you need warranty support on your Dell. If you are unsure as to whether or not you have international warranty just give Dell a call in your home country and they'll tell you.

Well, my experience just happens to be the opposite.

They charged 77,000 to my credit card to pick it up and take a look at it. Service didnt even want to look at my laptop, he just took it with him. They have had my laptop since Thursday with no updates at all.

Well, makes me a little more perturbed knowing that they can provide decent service, but just chose not to do it for me.

What trouble are you having and do you have international warranty?

yup, covered for 3 years.

Dont know what the problems is exactly, but i read that it has created the same problem in a few of the xps m1530 laptops.

Dead laptop after 1.5 years.

are you communicating with them directly or through a friend/co-teacher?

I have a nearly 4 year old Dell. I'm considering getting a new one before leaving...but this one still works and seems to have more life in it. In case it dies though, anyone have experience buying a Dell online in Korea? Is it possibly to do it in Korea in English now?

This thing cost me $500...The hard drive died after 6 months and I had to replace it with a Toshiba/decent brand since I don't think Inspirons are covered internationally. Other than that though...I'd say $500 for 4 years (maybe more) of computing is a pretty good deal, though it didn't come with things that were standard at the time (s-video, dvd burner).

I like Dells.

I've compared the Dell Korea catalog with the Dell US/Canada one and the US/Canada one has far more choices. If you want something small, you're probably okay. Dell Korea's price ran about 10% more after exchange on one I compared. However if you want to play games on it, you should get it back home if you're from US/Canada. Dell Korea only has like one gaming laptop, its an alienware, around 3 million won and ugly as hell.

So if anyone wants to buy one and can wait I'd recommend buying it online and having it delivered back home just before you arrive. You can pick it up when you're on your vacation and bring it back with you.

Thanks. A 10% markup is not that bad as long as my current machine will keep running for awhile longer. I like to game, but I usually just play "last generation's" games when I upgrade - phew, that Rome Total War (1) is a blast! haha

I prefer to watch movies on a TV, so the most basic models suit me fine.

DellKorea's site is in Korean, but you can still order an English keyboard and OS. I bought mine through DellKorea. The only thing different is the packages. On the right day in the right month, DellKorea can give a really good deal on a package.
