| I am a divorced single 35 year old white boy from the states. I am just wanting to know ppls opnions on dating in Korea. Do Korean women like white men or are we more likely to date other foreigners? This is not my main reason for wanting to move and teach in korea I just have a million questions and this is one of many. I'm a fairlry good looking guy and havent had to many problems dating women here in the states, but like most ppl we all enjoy having romantic relationships. No one wants to go through life alone. I spent almost a year in Gremany and found that most german women didn't like dating americans for some reason, ecspecially if they thought you were in the army which I was not. I was actually teaching in youth services and dated another american on base there. So if you are attracted to a Korean woman in Korea is she going to be turned off to the fact that your an american or excited about the fact that you are american? And no I'm not looking for any one night skank type relationships. I prefer an honest preferably christian woman with good morals. I just want to be clear that I'm not looking for the "korean" I want a baby and a passport sterotype that I've heard over here since I started telling ppl I was considering a a job in Korea. It seems a lot of men here think that korean women fall head over heals just because your an american. |

Personally I'm not into Korean girls due to personality / cultural differences.
I'm all up for meeting cute foriegn girls / native Englsih speaking girls but it seems all the good looking and interesting / smart ones either
1. came here with their boyfriend or have one already due to the inequal raito of western girls to guys here
2. have a hard to penetrate (no don't go there) wall of at least five male 'friends' or colleagues hanging round them all the time (natually)
3. Are just going after Korean guys for 'a change' or they liked them more anyway or are going through a phase of trying them out...
I've met a couple in the last 5 years, but boy is it tough.... |

| There are loads of Korean women who like American men, and the fact that you're Christian is probably a bonus. There are lots of good, honest Christian girls here. You won't really find them in bars though... but you will find them on the internet. |

your saying that in 5 years you've only met a couple foreign gals that had what you preferred in a woman?
So what about the Korean women. I have never dated a korean woman but I do think they are very attractive. Do you find it just as hard to meet attractive intriguing korean women or is it you just dont prefer korean women. Like I said before I'm not going over there looking for a korean or english wife for that matter. But I amopen to meeting a korean woman I just dont know if they are turned off by the pure fact that we're american. If thats the case and youve only met a couple fine english women in five years dang I sure dont want to spend several years in korea without the posibility of meeting a woman of substance. thanks for sharing though |

Hate to break it to you pal, but we're not all American you know.
It's not that I haven't met only two western women that had the qualities I look for, no. I've met and dated a few more, but like I said - they usually fall into category 1 / 2 / 3 (in my 1st post) so are unavailable. That's the problem.
Re Korean women - I find them childish, annoying, misleading and a million other things that I'm sure is fine in their culture but just doesn't gel with me. It really is too long a list for me to go into detail right now lol....

As pointed out by the Korean media, Korean women are sometimes easier to have affairs with then white women in the U.S. But they are way harder to have long term relationships with.
1. What are your interests. Other than Christianity. Your best bet for a LTR is to meet women through a mutual interest. They will have to be women who are not only college educated, but curious and probably will have traveled overseas. Or at least had some major contact with foreigners because they have great language ability.
2. The country is very Christian but in all likelihood what you will find at Protestant Church in Korea a bunch of people trying to fit in society and impress each other with their status, and having a daughter date a white English teacher is NOT high status to these types.
3. Divorce is definitely a minus to a woman who has never been married. Your job is not a minus but not a plus either.
4. Typical LTR: you will not get introduced to the parents and many friends unless its at a very late stage (ummm,.... Mom, I'm going to America to get married) or their parents are international types, lived in the U.S., are artists, etc.
5. Cross white western women off your list for LTRs in Korea as pointed out above or you intend to aim low or love fighting off 5 ESL teachers, 5 GIs and 2 investment bankers while you woo her. There are other ethnicities in Seoul you can choose from - Philipinos, Chinese, Mongolians, Russians, East Europeans, etc.
6. What is your threshold for needy behavior. A typical korean girlfriend will give you tons of texts and question your whereabouts. Do you like "taking care" of a helpless woman who pretends she can't do anything? Do you think it's cute?
7. How can you handle uncomfortable situations when you're in public? (getting s___ from the local male population, people acting weird at restaurants, stares)
8. Do you dress sloppy, have a lot of body hair, are overweight. You will limit your LTR pool. Appearances matter
9. Do you care if you are in the "rotation" of other guys before you get serious? Korean women are pretty obvious about this if you're a foreigner because, after all, she thinks you'll leave in a year or two. If she has a Korean steady can you handle the competition? |

This is the first I've heard that the competition is tough to date an attractive western girl. |

1. Well I consider myself christian, but I'm no "bible thumper" and don't attend church several times a week. But I have found women of faith more attractive. I love to play sports, basketball in particular. Love outdoors, camping, fishing, boating. I'm not huge on bars but do like to go out for an occasional brew with friends and I actually love korean food, even kimchi
2. Thats a good tip. Thanks for the heads up.
3. Yea I figured as much about the divorce thing even though I wasnt married long but its all the same. Live with a woman for 5 years get married and stay married for 1 year. go figure.
4. I wouldnt mind a LTR but any chick that introduces me to thier parents to soon is a bit scary.
5. Yea I think the same held tru while I was in Germany. the GI's definetly gave other westerners a bad rap. Being that I've never dated a korean woman i do find it intriguing and I do find then attractive.
6. Ouch needy behavior hugh? That could get old. I'm pretty independent and 20 text per day onmy where abouts...wow..thats on the verge of stalker. I do prefer a woman with some confidence. This is starting to get discourging
7. I can handle "haters" in public. WE see it all the time in the states when white and black ppl date. I personally don't care and have had a black g-friend before that drew stares. Speaking of which are there many black women in Korea? I think black women are absolutley gorgeous
8. Well I definetly consider myself a good dresser. I at the very least put effort in it. Awhhhh body hair..ever seen the 40 year old virgin? Been there done that to the cheast. So once in Korea you would suggest continuing the practice. I also heard that its fairly inexpensive for laser hair removal and was considering doing that rather than the ripping wax treatment every couple months, but hopefully no chick will be inspecting my cheast hair early on in a relationship. right? Overweight...well I could stand to loose maybe 15-20 pounds...I'm 6'2'' 250 but its not all soft baby fat..I'm no bodybuilder but I have spent time in the gym and enjoy fitness.
Even a few extra pounds could be a bad thing hugh? well I still have about 2 months so maybe thats something I could work on. I have a large frame and weighed 240 in highschool. I've been told that I look sickly anytime I've ever gotten close to 200 pounds, but that is american standards and we're all kinda fattys here. But your suggestion would be to cut the weight..I sure havent sen to many fat korean women. I was kinda hoping that being a "big Guy" would work to my advantage..lol
9. no I cannot be in any "rotation" that sounds kinda sleezy to me, but I get your point. these women are thinking this gy wont be here long so why put forth the effort. However I do plan on staying in Korea for longer than a couple years. 1 of my best friends has been there 5 years and he's telling me that I will never want to come back...an old college roomate.
He's dated Koreans but currently dating a brit and says it is kinda hard to find westerners to date..like I said I really dont have a preference as far as westernerns or koreans or whatever, just a nice girl that I dont have to be part of a rotation and that shares my intrest. I'm not a "player" and sure as hell don't wanna be played..probably sound likea wuss but I'm the type of cat that is a 1 woman man
thanks for your post very helpful.....
here comes my future in korea..anything for love
