Israel Abducts U.S. Congresswoman, International Humanitarian Aid Workers

Posted: 2009/06/30
From: Mathaba

In a test of Obama's ability to stand up to Israel and protect his own members of Congress, the boat "Spirit of Humanity" which was bound for Gaza to deliver some humanitarian aid to the besieged Palestinian enclave, was boarded by armed soldiers from Israeli war ships who have abducted its crew of 21 including the 6 term U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney.

This came after the Israeli navy had disabled navigation systems and communications on board the ship, and then threatened to fire upon it. This took place about 4 hours ago on Wednesday afternoon local time, with a crew member managing to get a message out "They're about to come on board, they're about to come on board" before the line went dead.

U.S. President Obama has promised to relieve the blockade and pay attention to the plights of Palestinians and he has been fully informed of this mission from the outset by 6 term U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney who is on board the vessel. Hours earlier McKinney who has been the victim of hostility from pro-Israel Jewish organizations in the U.S. said:

"I am extremely angry. We demand that the Israeli government call off their attack dogs. We are unarmed civilians aboard an unarmed boat delivering medical and reconstruction aid to other human beings in Gaza. Why in God's name would Israel want to attack us and threaten our safety and welfare. I call on President Obama and the international community to intervene now to prevent this situation from escalating with potentially drastic results to the civilians on board."

This is being seen as a test of the United States to stand up for its citizens engaged in humanitarian missions that even fall in line with U.S. policy, and there are concerns for the safety of the people on board the ship due to the history of Israeli state terrorism.

When you enter another state's territory, you are subject to their laws. They knew ahead of time what they were getting into and deliberately choose to break the law. No sympathy for them.

They were in international waters, not Israeli territory.

Could you show me where it states that in the article?

The caption states that they were seized [off?] the coast of Gaza which is being patrolled by Israeli warships...in effect an area which is controlled by Israel.

I wish they'd tie McKinney to a torpedo and send her out into the Mediterranean. Good riddance. This woman is just aching for attention.

The incident occurred in international waters about 90 miles off Gaza.

McKinney is no more bound to Israeli law in international waters 90 miles west of Gaza than American boats 90 miles off the coast of Normandy were subject to Nazi German law in 1944 or Gilad Shalit was subject to Gazan law for being near its border.

Her naval experience is already more impressive than McCain's. Laughing

Not only that, but if the US failed to react when Israel attacked the USS Liberty killing many of the men on board, what chance does McKinney have of engendering a response?
