I work for GEPIK and am on F-4 visa.
I won't be going home because I'll be studying at SNU as soon as my contract finishes.
What's the deal with...
1. Airfare? Will I just get money for taking a flight home later on (as in, not within the "10 days")?
2. Pension? You have to show them a plane ticket home, but I'm not going home. Is there a way to get that money even though I'm still staying?
My school has been pretty cool about everything and was willing to re-sign me; I just have other priorities. They're not sure with either situation, so I figured I'd ask on the boards?
Would it be possible/wrong to just buy a ticket, show the school and pension office, get reimbursed and receive pension, and get a refund of the ticket money for later use?

No and no. You get nothing.
If you don't leave, you won't get airfare. If you don't leave, you can't cash out your pension. Pension said they check with IMMI to make sure you actually leave (when I cashed out last year).
Maybe you could scam your school, I've not heard of anyone with success at that. But the pension thing is a personal experience of mine. They said they used to pay it out just seeing the ticket, but then so many people DIDN'T leave, that they changed the policy. |

The day after? Do you have any time off at all?
if you have any time off, you don't have to go back to say North America if that is where you're from. Perhaps you could talk them into a cheaper ticket for a weekend vacation or something. |

Why do they not pay out pension until you leave?
As far as getting a ticket somewhere else, the semester will already have started before the end of the contract, and I will not have any time off. |

Because pension has to do with post retirement. You aren't supposed to have access to the money now. If you leave the country then there is an exception because they assume you won't be coming back.
I heard from only one source so far that this is a one time thing. I don't know if it is true or not. What is meant is that once you take out pension, you can't come back to work at a school and expect them to pay 50% again.
Again, this could be hogwash. |

I see; that makes sense.
I'm not worried about pension as much, because I'll go back home eventually to visit within the next few months. I'll just get it then.
I know the contract states that I have to get a plane ticket within 10 days of finishing. Is there any way to get that extended? |
