I always like what this guy writes, and this one is very funny, especially about the mirrors. (Sorry if somebody already posted this)

Enjoy.

Nice generalizations. All Koreans carry around tobacco and mirrors?

Honma should have watched what he said, I'm sure people could have said negative stuff about his country too!

If he didn't like it here, he should have just gone home.

Honma was probably just a noodle-boiler back in his home country.

Maybe Koreans threw stones at him for good reason. He didn't understand the culture here.

Honma was really just trying to kidnap the Korean women.

Its a book from the 19th century. Plus, he never said all Koreans. If I said, "Soldiers in the Korean Army use the K-2 rifle," nobody is gonna really take that as every single soldier actually carrying a K-2. Some of you need to ease it with the generalization policing.

^ Agreed! My second biggest pet peeve on Daves. Some posters feel compelled to add the disclaimer: "Of course not all so-and-so's... blah blah blah." I think we're all smart enough to know that. It just comes off as weak and wimpy.

Can I give you a +1?

It's all the rage.

Well, looks like The Urban Myth was right.

Still TUM, I prefer to eschew disclaimers.

Kim Seong-Kon has been writing great and introspective articles for years. I recommend doing a search for him and his column, Koleidescope (sp?), and give them a read.

Last week's article on Koreans and modern technology was also very good.

I like his column too. Apparently he replaced another writer who was even more openly critical of Korean society. This was before my time here.

He was a visiting professor in the US. Travel broadens the mind.

I also liked the previous column about ethics. One of the first things I thought of when I arrived here. It could have been expanded to include thoughts on the practical uses of technology, and understanding of how things work and why.

The post on the unfamiliarity with combination locks
(right, then left, then right) being a good example. Yet, they designed some fairly interesting locks here many years ago, if anyone has visited the lock museum in Hyehwa.
