ok, i'm well aware there is a thrift shop thread, but none of the posts really helped me find what i'm looking for

so i am from NYC and we have tons of thrift shops back home that sell designer clothes for ridiculously cheap prices. hell, i used to go to salvation army and walk out with jeans worth about $400 (bought them for $7.99). i know there is no chance that i can buy them here for a price that low, but being able to buy them for about $60-$100 would be greatly appreciated. i was wondering if there are any shops in Seoul that sell used high end clothes/accessories. i'm thinking probably apkujeong has them, but i wouldnt know where to go.

just to give an example what im looking for, i wear true religion, seven for all mankind, rock and republic, citizens of humanity, juicy couture, dior, chanel, etc. also, if anyone can tell me where to find basic shoe brands like Steve Madden and Kswiss for cheap, that would be greatly appreciated (FYI, I don't think $80-$100 for these brands is cheap).

sorry if this sounded extremely superficial. NYC got to me good, and Seoul (the superficial city of the world) has only made it worse Razz

Skippy rules to Korea #2
You are not at home, so do not expect Korea to be like home...

Things in Korea are never or rarely going to be like home. Yea you say you are willing to pay higher prices. First off (normal) Koreans rarely use thrift stores. Few Koreans like to by used things. And NO proper/fashionable Korean would wear used clothing. Once its used most will never be sold again, it will likely end up in the back of the closet or tossed in the garbage. The clothes might go into the general thrift boxes but those will likely just go to some poor Korean rather then some church thrift store.

Also brand name shopping here in Korea is very much hit and miss, actually mostly miss...Most of the time you will just find Korea brands like Banila B, California whatever. The American brands you will likely find will be big ones like NIKE,LEVI, heck maybe even GAP but if you want a slight specialty brand like Codes Combine or what you are very likely out of luck.

Thru I will try not to be a complete buzz kill. I think (maybe) I have seen a few high end used clothing stores. Your best place to look is underground shopping arcades and big clothing stores like Milgore that are less department store and have a of more flea market feel. Meaning a whole bunch of little individual owned stores in a big building that looks like a department store but is not. But the selection has always been JEANS... And mostly just LEVI jeans and various other Korean brands.

My last piece advice is see what you can get online. Try places like ebay and that.

Well I hope that helps, can anybody prove me wrong. Please do so.

There's one place I know of called Coco Lux:
http://www.cocolux.co.kr/
which has discount/2nd hand designer stuff. They have a shop near Seollung station as well (let me know if you want directions).

Also if you head to Apkujong there's a place called Picasso, on the corner directly oposite Galleria, which sells 2nd hand stuff as well as a few other smaller shops clustered around that crossroads.

Further down from there if you were to head towards Gangnam-gu station (after Hakdong crossroads) there's another large shop selling 2nd hand stuff, can't remember the name but I pass it quite often so can update if need be.

Directions to Coco Lux:
Seollung station, walk out of exit 8 and head straight up the road. When you get to Samneung Park (about 5 minutes walk) then take that right. Coco lux is about 5 minutes along that road on the right, opposite the park.

I remember Korean exchange students explaining to me that $800 for a louis viton (sp?) bag or $600 for a nice coach bag is really really cheap. I looked at that website.. no well recognized brand name purse for under 2.5 million won. Thats a months wage for most teachers, how are you gonna get brownie points with the ladies??

Take a trip to Beijing and get a few knockoffs for $50 each. Picked up one that looked similar to this:

She knew it was fake since it came from my broke-ass, but who knows if her friends did?

They don't have specifially designer clothing, but The Beautiful Store (아름다운 가게) has a good range secondhand clothes. You never know what treasure you might find there.

The Beautiful Store has shops all over the place. It's a nationwide charity organisation and sells a wide range of secondhand stuff, including books and cooking utensils, mugs, plates etc etc.

The shops usually look like this.

Maybe her friends figured it out when she told them she was dating an English teacher who had just gone on a trip to China.
