Have you booked your flights home yet? Are any of you using your vacation time to leave early?

Curious about options/process and when to start balls rolling. My school has been great about everything, but I'm wondering if there are any norms re: leaving early. What about getting released before the contract or ARC expiration date?

In my case, my contract expires 8/31. My ARC and visa expire 8/27. But I will have fulfilled all of my duties by 8/19.

I'm using 1 vacation day and leaving on the weekend 8/29.

I am starting to talk to my school about finishing and getting paid and buying tickets. My CTs will be gone pretty much the entire vacation period. I'm glad I brought this up now because I've run into some serious BS about my airfare home.

In my opinion, it's not too early to talk about this with your school.

I would be very careful to extend your arc to finish your contract.

My contract ends on the last day of August but I'm using my vacation time to leave on the 21st. I need to get back to get stuff organized for grad school.

I already reserved my flight itinerary and sent it to the EPIK coordinator for my POE. He told me I'm all set and he will email me soon once they purchase the ticket.

Yes. I would recommend not using vacation days to go early unless you are being paid ALL monies on your last day of work before you go.

You'll need to go to Immigration and extend your ARC from 27 Aug to 31 August. It's 30,000 won.

If you don't, some POE ngome may withold your bonus/flight money (as, legally, you won't have completed your 1 year contract).

I'm in the same situation. The local POE made me sign a new contract (with new dates) after I arrived in Korea (and after my ARC had been issued). Sometimes, I wonder.

My contract finsihes Aug 31 and I will leave early.. You must ask your school if you can use your vacation time to leave early (in my case Aug 17). I was approved and have made my home-flight reservations.. Be forewarned, one-way fares are stupidly and ridiculously expensive, so you have to look around. Since it's "high season" when I leave, my one-way tix home is about the same as a return fare... You may think it doesn't matter since you don't have to pay for it (if you're on the old contract), but the POE will turn down unreasonably high plane tix... When you are less than 30 days out from leaving, you have to apply for your pension reimbursement. You will not get your severance or airfare reimbursement before you leave. You may possibly get your pension, however.. It varies from situation to situation. Leave your bank information with your school and the penison office, and all money owed to you will be deposited in your chosen bank account. I've never heard of anyone in EPIK in my province (Gandwondo) having trouble getting the money owed to them...Lots to do.. especially when you've been here 3 years like me!! Good luck!

Thanks!

I see the point about getting screwed if you don't finish your contract, but in the end after my camps are finished and my vacation days are used I'll still have about 5 days of no work.

Another question---For anyone whose contract expires/ed before the visa/ARC expires/ed, who DID NOT get a visa extension, did you get a letter of release from your school to show at the immigration office?
