I'm not at the point of interviewing quite yet but I'm curious about what type of things they want to know.
When you get the initial interview phonecalls can anyone share what type of questions they ask ?
Does the school call you themselves or does the recruiters make the calls ?
Just curious. |

My only interview was almost a joke. They just chat with you for a minute and make sure you don't have some heavy Punjabi accent lol. |

I have interviewed with a number of schools while trying to choose where to teach.
Some were very basic and really wanted to know when I could start.
Some were odd, and wanted to know how tall I was, and what my favorite sport was.
And one or two actually took time to ask about why I want to come to Korea, what my teaching style will be, what do I know about Korea, how woulc I handle such-and-such situation, etc.
The school always called me for the interview. The date/time would be set up through the recruiter, they I'd just wait until about midnight for the call!
Good luck! |

I have an interview with a school scheduled for Monday. Here's the email my recruiter sent me to "prep" me for it:

Heres some tips to consider when you take the interview:
They will likely ask you a few job related questions; however what you say is not as important as how you say it. Above and beyond all qualifications, the schools want to know that you speak clearly, have a friendly and outgoing personality and are interested in Korean culture and working with children. When you answer the questions try not to provide one line responses! The more you talk the more comfortable the school will be.
Try to ask questions about the school, students, curriculum, etc. This will show the director that youre interested in teaching. Lastly, to refrain from too many questions about the location, transportation, apartment, etc. These questions can be directed towards me or the other western teachers at the school. The schools want to make sure youre not coming for a working holiday only, and that you have a legitimate interest in teaching and Korean culture.

Hey guys, thanx for replying to my question...that's exactly the type of info I was looking for.
Emeliu, "They just chat with you for a minute and make sure you don't have some heavy Punjabi accent lol." haha I can totally see that being the biggest reason!!
indyflyguy, I figured that would be typical, some interested in "real info" and others just wanting to get a feel of your knowledge of english.
Justsurfin12, I've been talking with a recruiter for a while but we haven't even come to the interview info so thanx for sharing that email. |
