Before you read on be warned that this is a rant.
So last night I finished work, and left withouth picking up my phone, or keys from the drawer that I was keeping them in. I went to eat first, and then strolled home to realized that I didn't have either of them. I didn't think that there would be any problem, all I would have to do is walk back to work, and have someone let me in to get them. I went back to work, and asked someone to let me into my room. I should add that my school has two buildings and I work in the smaller 'secondary' building. It turned out that the guy who locks the doors had gone home, and he had the only key! The only key! Have you ever heard of a company that doesn't keep keys to its buildings?!! So there was obviously nothing that anyone at work was going to do for me, so I figured that I would have to wake up the adjumma that lives in/manages my apartment. I didn't want to do it but I had no choice. At any rate she didn't seem to mind that much, and she shuffled to her little 'guard booth' to get the key to my place. After hearing her move around in there for about 10 minutes, throwing things all over the place, and sorting through her mess on the floor, and under the desk and over the desk, and, well.... you get the point, she come over to me and tells me that she has no key to let me in. You have to understand that this woman never leaves the apartment, and she never stops doing things. She can't tell us anything unless she is screaming it like her life depends on it. She is up at 5:30 am sweeping the concrete outside my window, and she will spend all afternoon going through our garbage bags reading receipts, and inspecting every single thing that is thrown out, but when it comes to something that's actually important, and related to her job like having the F*CKING keys organized she's just standing there shaking her head and hands at me. I mean seriously what the h*ll is she being paid for? What is her job? She never stops doing things, continuously exerting energy out into space never to return, but the most basic of her job requirements is completely unorganized.
So that meant that I was out for the night with no phone to call anyone either. Before anyone points out that all I had to do was not forget my keys I already know that. I am not placing the blame for me not being able to get into apartment on my company or the lady. What I am doing is just ranting about the absurdity of the situation.
Never in my life would I have ever imagined that a company wouldn't keep keys to it's buildings!! Nor would I have ever imagined that an apartment manager wouldn't have the keys to apartments that he or she is in charge of. Then having both of those situations occur at the same time, well that just takes the cake. In both of those situations having keys on hand seems to be of the most basic and elementary things that a manager would make sure to have. My mind has truly been blown! I never knew the definition of unorganized until last night. I thought I knew, but not until last night did the reality of how absurdly unorganized to point of ridicule people could be. I am simply at a loss of words to accurately describe how I feel about this situation. Alright I am done now. |

Hahahaha. About 3 months in I left my keys/phone at work as well. Luckily I caught a couple teachers hanging out (at 9 pm..of course) before they shut down everything.
What you described has been a running nightmare for me. I can easily imagine my apt manager being unable to find the keys as well.
I guess I could clarify: my laugh was a sympathy laugh. I can easily imagine your fury. |

So what happened? Did you sleep at a motel or something?
I had a similar situation once. My apartment has one of those electronic number pads but the thing frequently malfunctions. After you press the code the door refuses to open sometimes and it's a new pad in a new apartment. But anyway, one day I was coming back from work and really had to pee. And yup, just when I need the door to open the most, it fails. I punched the code about 5 times then I called the guard but he wouldn't pick up. I was on the verge of pissing my pants; I considered letting loose on the hallway. After several more tries, the door finally opened. Whew. Replaced the number pad with a new one and so far no problems. |
