|

I'm about to go to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand on vacation, and instead of changing won -> their currencies or into $US, I'd rather just use my American Visa.
I'm assuming at the Incheon airport I can purchase traveler's checks ($US) with a Debit/check card (VISA).
Is this at all a problem?
Anyone who has made this trip feel free to weigh in on whether or not I should rely on using US currency rather than baht, riel, or dong (I'll probably change some at the airport just to have on hand). I'll be mainly in large cities, not too deep in the cut.
Thanks in advance. |

Hmmm.. Dunno if you can get travellers chex at the airport, but you certainly can at the larger banks here with no problem.. I've travelled to Thailand and Vietnam/Cambodia (at different times) and took US$s and bought local currencies upon arrival both times..I think I got a few Thai baht at Incheon airport though.. enough for my first couple days... Don't think you can buy Viet dong here anyway.. (that I know of). You can use US$s in the tourist areas in Cambodia, but will need local currency out of the bigger cities and tourist areas... There again, buy that when you get there... Hope this helps.. |

You can use US$ anywhere in Cambodia. It is the unofficial currency of the country. The ATMs even dispense dollars. The riel is just used as change. They are kind of like the coins in Cambodia. |
