Ive had my Dell XPS m1530 for a year and a half now.
2 weeks ago the battery went dead and wouldnt recharge. For the past 2 weeks Ive been using the laptop with just the adapter (pulled battery out).
Now, the computer doesnt turn on at all. There is a power light on the adapter though.
SO, dead motherboard or something else? DellKorea is charging 80 bucks to pick it up and look at the thing. |

Here are the recommended steps I would take. Look for Dell or PC forums that have posts similar to yours. If you cant find any post that has the same issue as you, then make a new post in a more specific forum.
After that maybe you will have a better idea of what is wrong and can take it to Yongsan to get it fixed for a better deal.

If you have no idea whats wrong with it, then find out where the Dell A/S center is in Yongsan.
Bring it there, smile and be charming, then, if it's a very simple problem and the guy is in a good mood, he might quickly fix it for you for little or no money.
Or at least he'll let you know the extent of the problem. |

| Could be the power cord? Try sparking it up with another cord, if you can find one. |

TY, all.
My mainboard is still covered by warranty, so they will fix if that is the problem.
Yongsan is a little out of my way to trek to. |

I had the same problem with my XPS. Dell in the states wanted like $700 to fix it. Mine wasn't under warranty anymore. I tried everywhere in Thailand to fix it. It worked just fine once I used another battery. The battery would keep it's charge only if it was plugged in. I just got another laptop. The machine is still in Thailand. I will sort it out when I get back in September, but it is a serious pain. The best IT people in Bangkok didn't have a clue. I don't know about Korea though.
Something happened to my HP mainboard here in Korea. It was simple to fix. |

If Dell wanted 700 to fix it; did they tell you what the problem was?
My battery cant keep its charge, that was part of the problem. Im kinda hopin its the mainboard because it's still under warranty. Ill get charged if its anything else. |

No, they didn't tell me. I still have no clue. At the time, I was in a bit of a hurry. I will be looking into an external battery charger for it when time permits. They said to send it to them and they would fix it. I thought for sure that I could fix it in Thailand. How wrong I was!
When I had the mainboard issue on my HP, the symptoms were completely different. Your problems sound exactly like mine. |

The problem was had something to do with the graphic chip? or graphic card.
So, in the end they replaced the entire motherboard (integrated).
It took a few days, but the service guy went out of his way in the middle of a rainstorm to bring me my laptop at 9pm. |
