I have just arrived in Cheonan and I must say that I'm surprised. Perhaps I'm lucky, but I have landed a stellar job. I get paid what seems to be the average 2.0 a month. I work about 6 hours a day. I have a 2-1 apartment all to myself. When I arrived the director's wife took me out shopping for new linens and other things I would need. Later today they will hook up the internet to the computer that they provided. And then after that they will take me shopping for a mobile phone. I had heard so many horror stories that I was floored. The kids at my school are great. I teach kindergarten, but I don't mind. They are fun. I'm in Cheonan, South Korea and loving it.

What neighborhood? And are you new to Korea?

I've been in Cheonan for a little over two years now, and am currently on vacation, so if you don't know the area too well, I can show you a couple of the highlights or something.

Welcome! There are actually quite a few of us in Cheonan. Smile What school are you working at? I live in Ssangyong-dong (near Lotte Mart) as do several others. Glad to hear your school is treating you well. Keep up the good attitude and have fun. Smile Today is my 3-year anniversary in Cheonan!

congrats on the three-year anniversary, justagirl!

hey - if there's a tour being given of Cheonan, I just might like to tag along! of course, after living in Cheonan for over a year and a half, I still only know the good coffee shops downtown, but that could be a fun and caffeine-filled pitstop along the way!

While passing through there last time all I saw was the coffee shop "Whatever"; anything else? I'd like to go hang out there for a day sometime. I still have yet to see Zyzyfer in person, and he's the person I've known on this board for the longest time.

mithridates : There's tons more, but Seoul it ain't. Lots of offbeat bars and good-natured people from my perspective(have heard stories though). Other little odds and ends that might interest those not interested in drinking as well.

Incidentally, there's no better time than now to come hang out with me in Cheonan. I'm on vacation and free all week. Weekends are taken though. Or, I could go up to where you are, since this is my last week in Cheonan...

Whatever you do... avoid the taxis in Cheonan... they steal your memory.

I refuse to get my hair cut in Korea... the bastards cut my sideburns off every time even when I tell them not to... someone will pay.

Another new soul in Cheonan, welcome.

Zyz is definitely a good person to know in Cheonan. I just met purrfect but she seems nice as well. As far as Cheonan info it is my second home so I can help out if needed.

cheers and welcome

I don't know how much I know of Cheonan, but maybe a few of us could meet up and exchange info on where things are that might be interesting.

I do know how to get to Independance Hall, the big sitting Buddah/temple (kagwansa), where to find campbell's chicken noodle soup and Pace salsa, and small things like that. (except the Buddah isn't a small thing...it's the biggest bronze buddah in asia, so says Lonely Planet)

Maybe we could all get together for some dinner? Zzy are you leaving next week? Also, Purrfect are you still interested in exchanging books?

Well as for the barbershops . . .don't go in the back, unless you're into that. The places with the multi colored barber poles, they're a bit dodgy.

That is correct. I'll be outski pretty soon. This week is more or less my last official week in Cheonan. Next week will be the migration of stuff to Suwon and then of myself to the U.S., where I can be another ig'nant Uhmuriken. Confused
