We are going to be working for Smoe this fall. Just wondering if there are any couples- married, unmarried, or friends, who have worked for SMOE. If so what was/is your housing situation and experience like? |

I knew an American couple in my SMOE district a couple of years ago. They had a very large (two bedrooms / one huge lounge / plus kitchen) apartment that I wouldve killed for. I had a tiny modern officetel with one room and a bathroom.
If you have particular requirements (eg - two bedrooms) you should contact your recruiter as soon as possible and make a specific request - even if it means having to be economical with the truth (eg - My husband alternates between snoring and wetting the bed, so we need separate rooms).
Heres another example - I wanted a double bed (dont assume youll get one - even as a couple) so I told my recruiter that because of my height (65) I needed a large bed! He then passed that information on to my school, which in turn ensured that I got one.
Decide what you really want and formally request it. Make sure you follow it up, too. SMOE accommodation is a huge lottery, believe me, so dont leave it to chance. And if you hear the words Co-op run a mile. |

I know a lot of married couples working in Public schools who get the 2 bedroom apartments. The funny thing is that they put 2 separate beds in these places, a single bed in each room.
I guess they didn't realize that a married couple would actually be sleeping together in the same bed.
The best was this one couple's place had 2 single beds in the master bedroom. On opposite sides of the room. |
