My friend and I applied to SMOE, and were told that they were only considering Level H candidates (essentially, those with a Bachelors and TEFL/TESOL certification). Hence, we are scrambling to enroll in a program.
However, I am very confused by the options. I know there's no real difference between choosing TEFL/TESOL. However, does it make a difference what program I enroll in? More specifically, a recruiter mentioned the 100-hour program, but would selecting a program with less hours be damaging? The 40 or 50-hour programs tend to be cheaper. |

| Do yourself a great favor and make sure whatever TEFL/TESOL certification you undergo has observed practice. It'll make your life a lot easier if you actually have someone critique you on your strengths and weaknesses. Too many "teachers" pop over to Korea with university degree and online TEFL certificate in hand (because it's cheaper!) and do the students a huge disservice. The problem with many certification programs is the limited amount of training offered for children. This is your bread and butter--at least for a year--and it will make your life easier and less stressful in the long run. |
