My husband and I will be getting D-4 visas for language study at a Korean university. When we got the letter of admission from the university it recommended paying for two sessions (6 months) in order to qualify for the D-4 visa. That's fine for me as I have a fellowship, but my husband wasn't expecting to have to drop such a big chunk of change all at once (over $2,000 US).

Is it really necessary to pay up front to get a D-4? Or is just showing that you have money in the bank and paying for one session sufficient?

(I would just look at the Korean consulate pages, but they seem to be down at the moment- grr. The ones that aren't down don't mention the D-4 visa, but only the D-2).

Thanks to anyone who has been through this process/knows about it!

I have gone through this process, but I am a little confused.

How did you already get the letter of acceptance from the university if you haven't paid tuition yet?

As far as the law is concerned, I don't think it matters if you study for one semester or two...that sounds like a policy mandated by the university. If that is the policyof the university that you should enroll for two semesters, then there isnt much you can do about that except either do as they tell you to do, or find another university. (There are plenty, and I would not hesitate to tell them that if that is their requirement that I would take my money elsewhere to another program)

Hi,

Well, I paid the application fee and was admitted, so got the letter of acceptance. Now I need to wire the tuition money in the next few days.
