The author is just as Korean as Huer. They are both American gyopos who have been in Korea for more than a decade. The difference being Huer probably hasn't ventured out much from his classroom on post, where as the other guy actually lives IN Korea.

Pretty sure the author is a woman, for all you mod edits who can't distinguish between masculine and feminine Korean names.

The romanization is pretty mod editted, but it looks like 천희 or maybe 전희. Neither look like feminine names to me, although I suppose the latter could be.

Man or woman, this person writes 100 times better than Huer with a clear focus, at least!

The author is a man, per this link. Warning, it will warn you not to go to it. I found it by google search on the e-mail address:

https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/opinon/2009/07/198_23766.html

It said this:
Quote:
The writer is a Korean-American residing in South Korea. He can be reached at [email protected]

At least a Korean FINALLY answered Huer. As badly as Huer has trashed foreign teachers, he has been much worse when writing about Koreans and Korean-Americans. Huer has called all Koreans dishonest and has labeled Korean-Americans as potential traitors. Rolling Eyes

It was surprising to see some Koreans and Korean-Americans defend Huer on this board. No way they actually read what he wrote about them.

What I don't like about Jon Huer is that he seems to be way out of touch with both foreigners and Koreans alike.
He seems to place his 'elite' status as being hired to work at Yongsan to make himself above everyone else as most of his articles on English education mostly put the breakdown in the ESL system on the foreigners with little knowledge about what its like to work in the ESL industry these days.

FYI- if anyone finds out which university he works for, they could send a letter to the main campus in the states informing them about the inflammatory remarks he makes against foreigners in Korea, which at times borderlines on discrimination. If they send the complaint along with the articles in question, it would almost guarantee his dismissal.

Others have also posted that Huer's writing style is NOT that of an academic. Huer seldom uses any kind of statistical analysis or statistics of any kind to back up his broad generalizations. Huer has written on many subjects that have been studied by academics, and others, yet he never uses statistics and never cites the work of others. Odd, isn't it?
Others have suggested that he should be investigated for having fake academic credentials. What do some of you who have verifiable advanced degrees feel about this? Does Huer's writing style match that of an advanced academic?

Huer's discredited himself pretty much by now, not only in the papers but in the emails he's sent to readers:

http://briandeutsch.blogspot.com/2009/03/jon-huer-strikes-back.html (the original post by "michaelambling"'s blog was deleted)

And this isn't the first time Huer's been hit by a Korean guy.

When Huer has nothing else left in his "arsenal" he scribbles something about English teachers and English education in Korea in a lame attempt to replicate the "Foreign teacher bashing" that occurs in the Korean media. Oh, he had something printed in the Korea Times about English in Korea? TODAY? What a SHOCK- NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!
