I do a bit of academic editing and I would like to point out a few facts.
1. There are three level of journals (A) international (SCII,SCI,AHSI) as based on an evaluation by Thomson Scientific science.thomsonreuters.com/mjl/, ( KRF level journals as supported by the Korea Research Foundation (C) Locally published journals (Universities or Academic Societies).
2. If accepted for a publication by a journal Korean professors (this includes foreign professors) get funding in the range of*:
6 million won for a A grade journal
4 million won for a B grade journal
2 million won for a C grade journal
(-books also count for funding)
*At least at my school.
3. The journals also provide an honorarium for publication. A Korean A or B grade level journal may provide an honorarium for the author of a paper in the range of 1 million to 1.3 million won.
4. Publications also counts as points to promotion status and tenure.
Editors
There are three editing services run by universities. Does anyone have any idea what they charge per page versus what they pay the editors?
- SNU Pay scale -8,000 per page
- Yonsei Pay scale (?) anyone have info?
- KIAST Pay scale (?) anyone have info?
Government work is 10k a page (25 lines). This rate has been existence since 2002 (as far as I know). This is becoming rather cheap and I hope it changes soon.
If you are going to edit please know the money behind the publications. Asking for 5% of the 5,000,000 won a Korean receive for a 20 page paper is quite reasonable depending on the work load.
I make 50k an hour (10-12k a page) by working at home; I probably could get more but I like the work. |
