Nicest beach I have been to in Korea has been the beach one over
from Seopori Beach on Deokjeok Island. Take the domestic ferry to
Deokjeokdo and the island bus to Seopori Beach. Then walk north
west on the main road up and over the hill. On the other side of the
hill turn left and walk past the rice paddies towards the breakwater and
past the recycling centre. There is about a 25m scramble over some
rocks and then the beach is there. Really beautiful. Basically it is one
bay farther than the Seopori Beach bay. Seopori will be crowded and
noisy this time of year. The other beach will be nice. But bring all your
stuff. There are no stores, noraebangs or restaurants at this beach.

I'd have to say Cohiba hit the nail on the head. Very nice beach and the ferry trip is fun (I prefer the slow old open air one from Daebu Island in Ansan).

Other choices are:

Boryeong (where the mud festival is held), very nice little beach town, some nearby mud flats, nice sandy beach.

The west coast strip from Seock-cho to Samcheok (including Gangnung), many beaches, few people, lovely west coast scenery. It can be a trick to find the right place though as many beaches are fenced off with barbed wire....kinda sucks for that, but still many great places to stay right on the beach, great sunrises. Head down expressway 50 or take the 6 to Seock-cho (through Seorak mountain).

These are my three fave beaches nearest to Seoul.

I'm with cohiba............the one next to sapoeri is a nice one.......also went to Jawal-do last weekend and it was nice too.......wasn't crowded, no other foreigners, and you can dig up those little clams everyone out there is so fond of. Small shady camping right on the main beach, couple good restos and a single convenience store. Nice bike paths/roads through and around the island, cool chill spot.
