|

Quick question, has anyone in Pennsylvania have to go to the Korean Consulate for an interview? I hope not, because the nearest one is in for PA Residents is somewhere in freakin New York! Any thoughts? Thanks |

first time I walked in like a dumas and just asked for an F4. Dude at the counter looked at me then slipped me paperwork and a list of required documents, which can't be emailed but handed in person.
second time I had all the required documents, except one. my moms had to give up her name on the family registry.
so.. yea that is being done now. and from what i've heard i'll probably have to go a fourth time, the day after, to pick up my passport.
s'ok tho i've gone with a different girl each time ;] |

Yeah, last year I was living in Missouri, and had to fly to Chicago and back for 10-minute, complete waste-of-tme, innane and infuriating interview.
What awaited me in Korea made the whole expensive, cumbersome, and inefficient E-2 visa process, not worth it!
Terrible job, terrible employer, terrible housing, and more...
So glad to be outta Korea! I was in China for five years prior to Korea, and as bad at it was in some ways, it was LOTS better than Korea; and the visa process was not nearly as ridiculous.
I hope more and more foreigners will take a pass on ESL in Korea, and their idiotic demands and requirements.
If you think this is all craziness now, just wait until AFTER you've arrived in ROK. |

New York is not very far away from PA. Unless you're in Western Pennsylvania, in which case Steelers fans don't have the requisite IQ to teach anywhere, not even Korea. Oh Snap! |

Zippy had to get his E2 visa in NYC last summer, a six hour drive from where we live in central PA. Luckily he has a friend here who has cousins in Brooklyn where they stayed--four days. Two days to visit the consulate in Manhattan because of a snafu in the visa issuance number and two days partying for his last hoorah. Technically he should have been able to get in and out the same day.
Take lots of money for parking.
If it's a public school position and you have a NOA, call and ask them if you can FedEx your passport and documents (including a prepaid return FedEx envelop for them to send it back)?

Twelve dollars roundtrip, SEPTA to NJ Transit. No parking money needed. |

Thank you everyone for your thoughts.
Can i really get there for 12 bucks roundtrip? How?
How does the E2 interview process even work? I mean do I just make an appointment and then come in and sit, or what? |

30th Street station in Philadelphia take the R7 to Trenton. Take the NJ transit train from Trenton to NY. Fares might have gone up actually, might be almost 12 one way since SEPTA hiked their light rail fares. |

yjo, this is a drill.
It's ALL a drill. If you can come up with the docs, find your way to the visa office, jump all the hoops, THEN you're fit to be a teacher in Korea and might even find your way there.
Zippy made a portfolio with copies of all his paperwork, his contract, his Original diploma, extra passport photos, CBC, etc. He still called home to get the phone number for his University (they were verifying his degree).
And he wore a suit. What part of the state are you coming from? When they left out of here in the am, he was driving in his shorts and t-shirt with the suit hanging in the back seat. We're 20 miles south of I-80, so it was a straight shot into the city. |

I near Philadelphia, my city is Norristown, so I don't think I really that far. What questions do they ask? Has anyone ever failed the interview? |
