				| I just took a job teaching in Seoul, Korea. I'm very excited to go and learn the culture. I am also concerned about making friends. The school I am teaching at is smaller and I'm not too sure how many other ESL teachers will be working there. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place to meet other foreigners or perhaps of a place where most ESL teachers hang out? Thanks! [/b] | |

				| I think Itaewon and Haebongchon are the 2 main areas. Personally, I think it's pointless to leave your country and come here only to find yourself immersed in some implanted group of fellow foreigners.
I did this for 3 months in Japan, and even though I enjoyed meeting with Australians and Britons in person, it was better to move out of that environment and work more with the Japanese directly. I actually worked for an Australian who contracted with a lot of Britons and worked one on one with them at their franchise before moving here.

As long as you are in Seoul or 30-45 minutes from Seoul, you should be fine.

				| I wouldn't worry about hanging out with Koreans. By their own definition they are a "one blood", homogeneous society. Therefore, if you meet
one you have met them all.

 Where to meet people:

 Clubs:

See the Korea Herald, Korea Times etc.

 Internet:

 http://www.korea4expats.com/

 Pubs

This works if you are gregarious. Or if you are into pool or
darts Itaewon has several leagues. Contact them, tell them you are
new here and I'm sure they will take care of you.

You ever wonder why you have no Korean friends?
