So I went to the bank today shortly before closing.
Asked the girl about having an online account where I could send money to America. Read about it here, so maybe it is possible..
She makes two calls and on the second call she gets some bad news. I have to go to them EVERY TIME I want to send money out. Foreigners may not have the privilege of sending money outside of the country using the internet. But wait! the good news is she will give me a 'discount' whenever I want to send money home
I am thoroughly disgusted with KB and their "your money = our money and we tell you what to do with it" protectionist policy. Has anyone else had an issue (already beat the debit card issue to death) concerning internet banking? |

Just ask them to set the facility where you can send cash home from an atm.
Its pretty easy and can can be done from most ATMs, not just KB. It takes about twenty seconds.
Still annoying about the internet thing tho. |

The system can bewilder and enrage foreigners....
"Some banks, which had issued the international debit card before, might have stopped because it would cost extra for them to establish a separate system to limit the amount foreigners can withdraw," said Lee.
...a public relations officer at Kookmin Bank, said, "If foreigners withdraw money with their ATM card overseas, we cannot control the limit. So our bank does not issue the card to foreigners." |
Foreigners Are Not Korean
Quote: |
Korean society in general makes a great distinction between one's inner circle of family, friends and business colleagues and outsiders. One should always treat ones inner circle with complete respect and courtesy, while one treats strangers with more indifference. Korea is not an egalitarian society traditionally; one is either of a higher or a lower status than another. Foreigners do not fit neatly into either scheme. They are normally treated graciously as one would a guest, but they may never be able to break into that close, inner circle. |
