1st time poster here. Problems with airline ticket resolved (I hope)
EDIT: Ok, they've bought me a ticket, which is better. But I'm still nervous. Any help?

Let me give you your first lesson in the Korean language: "Difficult" means "I have absolutely no intention of honoring my contractual obligations to you."
Call your recruiter, tell him to can that outfit, and get yourself another job. |

If the contract says they buy you a ticket, then they buy you a ticket. Otherwise they don't have a teacher.
Reimbursement often times isn't a problem, but why would they say they will furnish one for you but then turn around and say they'd rather reimburse you. Is it laziness? Or does your employment (and flight money) depend on your initial impression?
Frankly, if you're working for a small school and a small-time recruiter, I'd ask for the ticket in-hand. Else, keep looking.
If this is a major chain of schools (say, CDI or Youngdo or something) and a reputable recruiter (if there is such a thing), then reimbursement might be OK. But there's no reason that it would be any more "difficult" or "more expensive" for them than it would be for you. Here's a question you might ask: how much are they willing to reimburse for the flight? And perhaps that should be written clearly in the contract. |

| This is exctly the crap I am dealing with now. I am in Korea and the school is not paying my airfare as they were supposed to. If they pull something shady like that play hard ball.Tell them that now you want a return flight purchased as well. |

| Well, they just bought the ticket. So there we are. Still nervous. Guess I should change the thread title. |

| Let me give you a different lesson in Korean. The national motto in schools here, from what I've seen, appears to be "how can I make this more difficult?" Essentially this principal works by looking at a simple situation with a simple enough solution and doing the exact opposite of said solution. Often times the shortest distance between two points here is to intentionally head in the wrong direction and then backtrack to where you started and then head to the intended destination. You will find yourself rolling your eyes in disbelief from time to time...it's actually pretty comical I think. |
