After several months here, I am still constantly struggling to keep my T-Money card filled. I don't live near a station, so I can't always use the machines. The people in the little Ma & Pa kiosks seem to get angry with me when I ask them to charge my card, possibly because I'm not buying anything else (?) and I have yet to find a 7-11 that will charge my card, though I hear many will. Does anyone else know a better way? I know I should just dump a pile of money on it, but I just never have tons of extra cash on me when I'm at a station. All (helpful) replies appreciated.

Do you have a phone that has a T-money chip in it? It's really convenient because you can either charge it manually or have it charged to your account like a debit.

Because of the new one-way ticket machines they put into use recently, recharging your T-money card is easy; they are at EVERY station, usually a whole bank of the machines together.

The machines are used for both kinds of cards: one-trip cards and rechargeable T-money. No need for TONS of cash. You can put as little as 5000 at once.

You can put on as little as a thousand, too, at the machines. Did you know you can use these cards at more than just the subway? Except that you can't recharge it on a bus or at the phone booth. It's nicer to have one of those chips that you attach to your phone, then you always have it with you and you don't need to carry your wallet everywhere you go.

Just a note, if you are taking 2 buses to get somewhere, beep your card when you leave the first bus. Then you don't pay the full amount on the next bus. You don't have to beep when you use only one bus.

Yes you do, unless you like being hit with a 700Won penalty the next time you get on the bus.

Is there never no fuss when you use your t-money card?

I went to school with a gangster named Terrence and his nickname was T-Money. Funny to see this name pop up in Korea.

Theres some terrible rapper in New Zealand who goes by the name P-Money.

Some radio made a nice parody of him with a song called "The list". "... you're next on the list for a P-Mungi fist...".

But what if you only use the bus once in a blue moon? Does it remember that you owe it? I know it remembers for a day or so, but a whole week?

It always remembers.

The card doesn't store much information, but it includes this:

- An ID number for the card
- The balance of the card
- The status of the card (disabled, ready, inuse, etc)
- The last train/bus that you scanned on, the time, the distance charged for, and whether you scanned it to get on or off

The cards charge a base fare of 700 or 900 won, and 100 per some amount of kilometres after some other amount.

Transfers have a time limit. Somewhere between 30min and an hour, not sure exactly how long though.

Because it only stores information of the last bus you took, if you want to make a short return trip somewhere, you could tag on and off the first bus, tag on a second bus with a different bus number, get off at the next stop, then take the original bus back home, and only get charged the base fare.

Hmm, what if I take a bus going the wrong direction for one stop, then cross the road and take the right bus to where I'm going. Then when I want to come back after work, I do the same...will I ever have to pay more than the base? Heehee! Wish I had 7 hours to transfer, then it might work!

As long as you don't take the same bus number (or a red bus) or the subway twice in a row.
