|
|
I know the ferries are an incredibly popular topic and I really searched the archives, as well as several corners of Google and I can't find an answer.
I'm looking to travel from Osaka to Busan (one-way) by ferry. WHERE can I book this ticket? Do I need to go through a Japanese company? Travel agent? Can I do it through the PanStar website with the help of a Korean (since the English page is dead)? I live in Busan... can I go down to the ferry platform and buy the ticket there?
I'm going in mid-August which I hear is peak season. I prefer to book ahead instead of chancing it and having it sold out or only high-priced rooms left.
Thanks! |

| I don't mean to be rude, but are you sure you mean Busan to Osaka and not Fukuoka? |

The PanStar ferry does a roundtrip run Busan > Osaka. I believe there are two ferry companies that do the Fukuoka run, which is not what I'm interested in. I bought a one-way flight to Japan and I want to take the ferry one way from Osaka to Busan.
However, this whole question of WHERE to buy this ticket is giving me some problems. I've found suggestions for buying Busan > Osaka or a roundtrip run... but I don't know where to buy just Osaka > Busan.
I feel like so many people have done this trip, I see it mentioned like "Should I take the ferry?" "OK, sounds good, I booked my tickets."
Where?? |

I could be dead wrong here but I doubt you will find any regular ferry that runs that route.
If there was a ship it would be a tourist ship.
With the shinkansen and other modes of transportation I doubt anyone in their right mind would want to add an extra day or more to their travel by departing from Osaka. Therefore they may be out of business.
Try to find a package that gets you on the train from Osaka, then on the ferry in Fukuoka / Hakata to Busan.
Is there a reason you want to sail all that way? |

Ok, here's a link that proves this ferry actually exists:

I emailed Kangsan Travel but they haven't gotten back to me yet. We are starting to think we might take the overnight bus to Fukuoka (10,000 yen - $100) and take the Beetle across (115,000 won - $90). By why do all that excessive travelling if we can leave by ship straight from Osaka? Sure it takes 16 hours but we'd actually have room... in lieu of sleeping on a bus or taking the high speed train + hotel room in Fukuoka. |

You're dead wrong.

Osaka-Busan
The PanStar Line [8] operates a ferry between Osaka and Busan. The ferry leaves daily (only Sun, Tue & Wed in Jan09 from Busan) at 3:10pm from both Osaka and Busan and arrives the following day at 10am. In Busan, the luggage check-in time is prior to the passenger check-in time: for the Busan-Osaka run, luggage check in is 12:40 to 2pm and the passenger check in time is 2:15pm to 2:45pm; for the Osaka-Busan run, luggage check in is 1pm to 2pm and the passenger check in time is 1pm to 2:30pm. Many different room options are available, including family rooms. Fares start at KRW 125,000/JPY 17,000 and range through seven different room/suite classes culminating in a Presidential Suite, which is KRW 2,000,000/JPY 250,000 per night. Tickets can be purchased online, but much of the website content is only available in Japanese and Korean, and may be difficult to navigate for English speakers. Tickets are easily obtainable through agents specialising in Korean or Japanese travel.

Your best bet is took book the ticket through the Panstar site with the help of a Korean friend. |

boatcar, thanks so much for the info! The times and prices were exactly what I was looking for.
I don't know why people respond when they don't know what they are talking about (?) |

| I did get some help with the Panstar website and it turns out they only do this trip once a week now--on Saturdays. That shaved off two days of my trip so instead I'm taking an overnight bus to Fukuoka and taking the Beetle home. |

not sure where you get that info but they do osaka-busan on mon, wed, friday. you need an outbound flight ticket to buy one-way ticket from osaka.
maybe its too late for now but you can just go to the office and ask.
