Does anyone know how long this takes in Ireland?
Is it the same as Garda vetting which is done in Thurles?
Cheers |

Takes a while anyway, I've been waiting four weeks at this stage for mine. Rang them a week ago and they said it'd be another 2 to 3 weeks. so I'd say 5 -7 weeks? I've no idea why it takes so long, a bit ridiculous really.
Yeah it's that vetting thing alright, you can print the form from Garda.ie, it's form P20 (or f20) or something like that. |

No it's not. You need to have a family member go to your local garda station where you live and request one for you. The gards will want a copy of your birth certificate and some proof of address before they'll issue a CBC. |

Sorry to be the one to tell you this but the data access request won't work as that form is not really vetting, it's just for personal use.
The good news is that a CBC from your local Garda station won't take very long and I believe immigration will still accept CBC's that have only been stamped by the Irish embassy in Seoul. |

I called into my local garda station and was told to send a letter to the station with a copy of Birth Cert and a list of all my residences. The Garda knew exactly what I was talking about and assured me this was what I needed for a visa.
I did this and received my CBC in one week.
(plus it was free )
Got it apostilled and sent it off to EPIK and got my contract and visa no prob. |

| Well we called the local Garda Superintendant there and he confirmed that what you have to do is call into your local Garda station with a print out of your Full Name, Address, any previous addresses, Date of Birth, and PPS # and some ID (Birth Cert or Passport) and state what you want and they action it for you. It's free and only takes a week or two, shorter if you state the urgency. None of this Vetting nonsence. I'm well annoyed, I've been waiting for this Vetting thing 4 weeks when I could have had all the docs sent at this stage. |

I rang the place in Thurles and asked.
It seems to get a visa you just go to your local station with birth cert etc and the superindentent does it for you.
I asked what the difference is between that and the vetting thing but am still unsure of the difference.
I presume whatever gets you the visa is enough? |

As far is I remember (I got my second CBC in January) it's not Garda Vetting, it's a criminal background check. I called 0504-27300, asked for a form to apply for a criminal background check (reference A22459) and they sent it to my parents house. My mother filled it in, sent it back, and the CBC arrived 2-3 weeks later.
PM me and I'll mail you a scan of the application form, you can post that to them yourself, but you'd still need to get it apostilled. |

I went into a local garda station n asked to get the CBC to obtain visa to work abroad.
I don't think any of them knew what I was talking about.
They tried fobbing me off by telling me to ring thurles.
Told them thurles said a local garda station would be able to issue it.
So then they asked a few questions like what kind of work and where, so I said teaching in asia, then they asked if i'd be teaching children so i said yes, possibly.
They said anything to do with children has to be issued through thurles.
To be honest, I think the guard just wanted to get rid of me but anyways, what can u expect.
Should I have said anything about teaching children?
Has anyone done it thro thurles and was this ok?
Thanks guys for any advice |

I called around to my local station. Brought nothing with me, they needed my PPS number and address info, DOB just basic stuff.
I've been waiting a few weeks to hear back but none of this vetting business or birth cert stuff is needed. My dad works at the station so I would have heard back by now if there was something wrong.
Its the gards so sometimes people get their forms really quickly sometimes it takes 6 weeks - its just luck.
By luck i mean whether some ****** in the office mistakes the form for a bag of chips or not. |
