whats crackapopaflockin peoples,

I just had a phone interview with the TaLk recruiter about my application and it seems that i've done well. I am now on the document handing in stage of the process and have a couple questions.. Any help from those of you who have completed the TaLk application process would be much appreciated.

-The Lesson Plan. The template seems to get into details that have yet to be discussed with me. Also I have nill teaching experience and so should I just wing the stage/procedure part? I was under the impression that we'd be going through a rigorous training course, so wouldn't it be logical to request a plan after that? This may seem sheisty but would anybody mind either pm'n or email'n (mykreation@yahooDOTcom) me their lesson plan? I'd like to see an example of a accepted plan.

-Acceptance? It seems that i'm running around gathering the required documents, some which require moneyz, on the hope that i'll get accepted. For other TaLk scholars, whats the likeliness of acceptance at this stage, and also what was the next step for yall?

tl;dr
lesson plan rediculousness. halp. step after document hand-in?

Talk programme people should kindly join EPIK or f*** off home cos you're undercutting our salary and conditions and positional opportunities here in Korea.
This is whats happening in my area. Is this happening all over Korea now I wonder. Koreans don't care about quality, just to save as much dosh as possible.

Exactly what he said and it's not fiction - it's happening.

Drop TALK. Especially, if you have the golden ticket, then why even bother with them. pick up a part time hagwon job and supplement it with privates. you could easily make triple what TALK offers and not have to live in the sticks.

well I figured I'd fulfill my 6 month contract as a starting point, then search for a hagwon after that. As I mentioned, I don't have my degree yet and job hunting from the US has proven difficult.

Hmm, ok, I hope I can offer you some help!

I'm going to Korea this fall through the TaLK program. I don't know if you also applied for the Fall program, or if you applied for the Spring 2010 program...? To me, it seems a bit late to be doing the interview for the Fall 2009 semester... Especially since orientation starts the first week of August, lol. Well, maybe that's just how they roll.

The lesson plan - easy. Think of a fun game teaching some English dialogue and detail it. They'll accept it. For instance, I just made a lesson plan on asking directions in English. I detailed how I would have the kids pair off; one would be the "asker" and the other would be the "giver" of directions. Etc. etc. etc.

Yes, I also understand your feeling of "applying to be accepted". In a sense, this is how TaLK works. This fall's class of teachers is the third generation (meaning this is the third time the program's been done, so it's very new), so I think they're still pretty willing to have anyone apply providing they're an English speaker and not a criminal lol.

And don't worry about the other repliers... I understand their viewpoint, however. We are getting a LOT less pay than most English teachers, but understand they've graduated, which is why. We're doing this program because we haven't graduated and need some time off of school in the middle of completing our degrees. Because of that, we also won't be working as many strenuous hours as regular English teachers. So don't worry, it will be a good semester abroad. Smile

You should look around this forum for a couple more TaLK threads that are pretty informational.

If you're applying for Fall 2009, I will see you in Suwon in a couple weeks! Smile

Wow, I can't believe they're still accepting applicants at this late stage of the game. We're supposed to be getting our airplane tickets e-mailed to us by the end of this week.

Good luck with getting all your documents together!

The hours aren't strenuous by any stretch of the imagination...only 22 are required per week and many regular English teachers teach less than that. I currently teach 18 classes per week...so that's only 3 more than the TALK people.

And regardless of whether you teach 15 or 22 classes, you will likely be expected to stay at the school for a full 40 hours per week, from 9-5 or 8:30-4:30.

See you in Korea!

Cool

Talk program teachers do get more time off. The teacher here is finishing her year, and she doesn't come in until after lunch. She also leaves before I do.

So, if time is an issue, the Talk program might be better. However, your job for each of the classes is exactly the same.
