|
|
In my previous job the company declared my income to the National Pension Service (NPS) at 30% less than it was.
I have tried to lodge complaints with the National Pension Service on 2 occassions now and on both occassions the NPS have refused to accept the complaints. The first time was in a regional office and the second time was by telephone.
The amount of money that would need to be repaid is w500,000 by me and w500,000 by them.
My question is should I pursue them? This company honors its contracts but their contracts do not comply with Korean Labour Law. They seem to know which laws they have to follow and which laws they can break. My thinking is that they obviously know they can ignore National Pension Law and as I have to live here for a bit longer I am best to bite my tongue. The main thing is that I would rather not invest another w500,000 into the pension here.
However there are about 500 foreigners I know to be in the same position.
Any comments? |

What company is it? I worked for a big adult company that starts with the letter "P" last year, and while they paid up nicely at the end of the year (albeit a week or two after the last day of work), I noticed throughout that their pension deduction every month was a bit short of what it should've been. I brought it up a few times, and they just said they'd correct it at the end of the year. I was paid hourly, so my money varied every month, but their deduction was always the same. Seems fair enough, except their deduction was less than 4.5% of my guaranteed minimum. I haven't gone to collect or check on it yet, so I could run into the same situation in later years. |

1) the regional offices usually refuse to do their job and want to pass the buck
2) the telephone hotline does not accept complaints in any case, it is strictly for information and advice
3) because of point 1, ALWAYS go to the main office at Jamsil station. Exit 8, take the first left, go to the end of the street, the NPS building is in front of you, go to the fourth(?) floor, take a left off the elevator, and left again.
They speak English there and will help you get your money (make sure you have ALL the documentation with you that will prove your case). And if you can show the regional office did not do their duty, the main office can punish them for not enforcing the pension laws. |

No, their name doesn't start with "P" but the other one. It looks like they are both doing the same things and this may affect more teachers than I realised. I don't live in Seoul, unfortunately. |
