I'm confused about travel insurance. This is something few young travelers consider nor want to think about. They say policies such as Travel Guard are good international travel insurance policies, but the internet is riddled with negative reviews repeatably claiming lack of servicing the policy in times of dire need on each one I Google. I don't see any reviews from anyone who benefitted in the time of need.

OK, I want the assurance of having full medical that pays the provider upfront in the event I need medical help and gets me on my way should I be flightless due to health, airline, or weather issues. I simply don't have $100,000 dollars cash laying around to offer a hospital to save my life should I get hit in the noggin by kids throwing rotten eggs in Katmandu or Timbuktu and defintely don't want to be out of my prepaid flights only to be left to the vultures selling outragious last minute tickets wiping me out at the bank like a clean erasure to a whiteboard. There are 2 things to really protect and if you feel confident in having your bases covered, it's time for the funnest ride of your life. These 2 very things are your life and your money as well as belongings such as your credit card, passport, notebook, and your precious $6000 of DSLR camera gear. Of course one of the cheapest and very best forms of travel insurance is a money belt, but that doesn't cover you for concussion to the head unless it contains a card worth a mint.

Have any of you used travel insurance? If so, was it reliable in the event of unfortold circumstances? What policies would you recommend?

hi...

I always err on the side of caution regarding travel insurance....

I get it every time I travel.....I can't use the ones from home anymore as I am living in Korea...but I have a friend who hooks me up with very cheap insurance...I went to the states for a month and insurance was only 30 000.....I am going home to NZ and hitting up Hong Kong and I got insurance for that and it was 19,000 won....(and its for a month as well)....so I am very pleased about that...NZ travel insurance is quite expensive...even for a trip to Aussie....

I had a friend who uses nomad....they have reasonable travel insurance that you can arrange from the internet and in english (I think its an american or british site)...

I would also get a comprehensive cover for travel...especially as you have NO IDEA about what could happen....my friend went to europe and broke her leg while cycling....I am not sure if she had travel insurance and it was a hefty bill she had to pay....medical expenses in many countries are very expensive.....
If you have very expensive items you will need to declare it on your policy and take precautions with them when you travel...

good luck ^^
