Hello, all,

I've been having a lively exchange in the Jobs-related forum with poster whose moniker is "kimchieluver."

It made me start to wonder about expat's feeling about Kimchi.

I have no idea what type of result this poll will yield.

Your participation is appreciated.

Hated it when I arrived in Korea...

11 months into my stay... had another encounter and loved it, lol... but only had 1 month left... wish the Korean restaurants in the UK wouldn't charge 2.50 for the smallest portion and never refill it!

From speaking to people my story's a pretty common one...

Kimchi is delicious, especially in Shin Ramyun, but its not THAT delicious. Koreans don't even eat it that often, so I don't feel obligated eating it either. Its just a good sour dish. (not spicy at all though :\).

can't get enough.

i can eat it at every meal. the spicier the better.

in the States it is hard to find. some supermarkets carry it in the jar,

but it's usually way too salty.

I can dig most types. The Koreans around here seem pretty impressed when I order rice and kimchi for breakfast.

Go out for samgyupsal and put the kimchi on the frying pan 'downstream' from the bacon grease. You'll be glad you did.

I like it in small doses. It's not something I eat every day. But I eat it enough to buy a pack every month. I really like the mild home made kind you can get at some restaurants.

When you think about it seriously, remember the time and place for kimchi. You've got no way to store vegetables for the winter besides pickling them, and you're not much in the way of spices tat you can't seal up and store. The only thing you can get in a Korean winter is meat and wood.

Well, open up a jar of kimchi and you've got your vegetables and spices right there. Consider that you can still get the really old kimchi from Lotte Department Store, some people haven't lost their taste for the old ways.

It goes well with grilled or roasted meat, or occasionally in soups. That was what it was intended for. That's why it tastes good with them, and not, for example on a taco (you Californian freaks).
