I would like to warn anyone out there not to deal with Michael Kim of the recruitment agency Englishwork. I got a job via him a few years ago while in Korea. When my school broke my contract I asked him to help me find another job. He flatly refused. Watch out for him. |

And while we're warning people about recruiters... stay away from Perfect English For Korea and a woman called Susan Ng.
I had to pay her half a million Won, while she took another half from my old school. I'm not even mentioning the other reasons.

I don't see how the recruiter is responsible for the school's actions. He may not have had all the facts and decided to keep his hands clean by not dealing with either you or the school.
You should be posting the school in this case, not the recruiter. |

All Newbies note: A recruiter has ZERO responsibility toward you after placing you in your job. ZERO! If you have a problem and they help you out then kudos for them.
Recruiters are not celebrity agents. They place teachers with schools and thats it. Remember, recruiters get paid by the school. The school is the customer, not the teacher.
No, I am not a recruiter. |

they can help smooth out any problems if they occur. My recruiter helped sort out the mess when a teacher at one of my schools did the "midnight run."
hard to believe, as she walked right by my door on the way out. But it was my first month there |

If a recruiter lies about the conditions of employment (and most of them do) to get a teacher to sign a contract by making verbal promises s/he can't keep, then said recruiter is RESPONSIBLE for the sour relationship between the instructor and employer that will most likely ensue. Also, if a recruiter chooses to use a contract from one school and places a teacher in a different school (bait and switch), then said recruiter is RESPONSIBLE, especially when s/he decides to ignore the teacher after being called out for breaking the law.
A fair amount of the bad blood between EFL teachers and hagwon owners could be circumvented if recruiters were more RESPONSIBLE in earning their commissions. On a similar note, would-be-EFL-ers coming to Korea need to be RESPONSIBLE in doing their homework before signing dodgy contracts or in blindly trusting recruiters. |

A recruiter's job is to RECRUIT you for a job. That's why he's called a RECRUITer. Once you are placed in YOUR job, HIS job is finished.

Then sue them. That's what civil law is for. |
