Alright, for hte last few years I have been teaching advanced conversation to adults. For the most part they eat up any text book I send their way and they really just like to chat.

Honestly, chatting is great but I KNOW that it would get old if I wasn't teaching them at least something. Then I stumbled on an idea... movies!

I brought a version of MATRIX to class (with english subtitles) and started watching it with them. We picked the vocab apart peice by piece and had alot of fun with the story. If the truth be told they said to me that they now understood the movie 1000 times better. Seems their Korean translations didnt do it alot of justice.

So now I plan to introduce one movie a month. After awhile i'll weed out theEnglish subtitles and hopefully have them cool with just the movie.

So, if you've got advanced students.. give it a try if you havent already. If you just want to wath a video.. its not too bad. But if you get creative in your teaching.. it can be amazing.

I always tell my korean friends to watch movies and write out the scene -- play, pause, play, pause -- then try to figure out what all of the idioms and expressions are. It's a great way to learn.

I have a Korean friend named Sally who speaks near-perfect English, and says she got a perfect score on the TOEIC (when she called me recently after not hearing from her in a long time, I thought she was western).

She has never left Korea, and studied most of her English watching movies. She now teaches at a High School in Seoul.

I've noticed a lot of movies in Kyobo with the scripts attached and all the dialogue explained in a kind of textbook format. American Beauty was one of them; I forgot the others. It might be good to go over some parts of the textbook a few classes in advance, introducing some of the script but nothing that gives away the plot.

This is the oldest idea in korea. BCM started this so many years ago even i don't remember and it doesn't work. People will miss a few classes and never be able to catch up and it gets so boring you will want to shoot yourself.
