calls a phone of any kind and then stays on the line while it rings for literally ten minutes?

I hate vacation time in the office alone. I'm tempted just to answer it in English. I bet whoever it is would never call back ever again.

Answer it "Microbiology, this is Dave" or something like that. "Yoboseyo?" "Yes, Microbiological Research Department, this is Dave speaking, how can I help you?" <click>

Not uncommon considering your teaching at a school and some parent might have a question and they know someone is supposed to be manning the phones.

By the way....is that you Yu Bum Suk? I've really missed you and your thought provoking discourse.

The weird thing is, I'm not in the main office, where there *are* teachers manning the phones. I'm in a little side office four floors up. Anyway, every day around the same time, just as I'm trying to finish the homestretch of lesson planning for the day, the phone rings for ten minutes straight. It's great.

I think I'm going to answer today. Stay on the edge of your seats.

I just unplug the phone cord. If my co-teacher is around, he plugs it back it and takes calls. Problem solved.
