.
I'm writing this from the Inchon Airport. My flight to Taiwan left an hour ago and I wasn't on it because I left my PASSPORT in a taxi. Very stupid. I was in a hurry to get out of the taxi and didn't look behind because the taxi driver wanted to rip me off by charging the meter price plus 10,000won. Thankfully I had my ticket and money in my bag. It's been an hour and I'm losing hope that the taxi driver will return the passport. I'll wait a bit more and head back to Seoul to the Canadian Embassy. I was just wandering if anyone has ever lost their passport and what was your ordeal. I'm tired, angry, disappointed and am expecting today to be filled with hassles.

When taking a taxi out of one city and into another, you always pay a surcharge. Korean law prohibits taxis from operating in another city except for picking up customers to return. So the Seoul taxi that took you to the airport has to either wait there until they pick someone up to return to Seoul, or to drive back empty. They can't pick up people and skirt them around Incheon, assuming he even knew where to go. |

I guess he wanted to charge you 10,000 won for the highway toll (which is about 3,400 won each way-ridiculously expensive because the ONLY highway/road going to that island is privately owned).
Anyhow, did you contact the police? Or are you waiting for the driver to bring you back the passport at the airport???
If you still want to go on your trip, I would hurry and go to the embassy to get a new/temporary passport. If not, give it a few days, maybe your passport will turn up at some police station. |

Yep, when we were living in Suwon a taxi driver gave us a tip how to get a cheap ride back from Seongnam to Suwon... Check for the Suwon number (32? don't remember) on the license plate, those would be willing to take us for a reduced fare because they had to head back to Suwon anyway (you can negotiate a fare in that case - I think we usually got from Seongnam to Suwon for 20,000 won). |

As well, the city name is on the licence plate. That, and many subway stations have taxis usually waiting near them that are headed to other cities so one can take a taxi out of the city without having to pay extra.
Luckily where I live I have three taxi stands in front me. So if I need to go to Seoul, Incheon, or just stay in Bucheon I just have to pay the meter rate (or less when going to Seoul if I try to negociate up front). |

Just came from the embassy and they told me the quickest they could replace the passport would be by Firday. Then I had to get passport photos, go to the police department and then to the immigration office and then back to the embassy with all the paper work. Then on Friday I'll have to go back to the Taiwan consulate for another visa. The whole thing make me sick with anger.....at myself for leaving the bag containing the passport in the taxi and at the taxi driver for not returning it.
I paid for the road toll myself. And the 10,000 surcharge seems a bit high on a 31,000 fare. |

1. Call your embassy.
2. Have someone call the taxi company. call 1330 |

I make it a point to write down the taxi lacense plate number when I get in. (I don't take taxis often, so it's not a big deal.) That way if I lose something I can report it, and also if I feel they ripped me off.
Your situation sucks. At least it sounds as if you don't HAVE to leave today. That would be even worse.
I justgot back from Taiwan last week, by the way. |

I hope my travel plans go smoother than this thread's poster. I'm heading off to the U.S. tomorrow morning for a 11-day vacation.
Anyway, I'm taking the Airport Limo. Don't wanna pay for a taxi. Question- if you take the Limo back to your town, how/where do you catch it at Incheon? Is there a designated pick-up point at the International Terminal?

The bus stops are on level one at Incheon. They are clearly marked and signs help you find the right bus to the right destination around Korea. |

How I find departure times for the Airport Limo service? I know that there is a website with scheduled departure times but where?

I lost a passport (had it stolen in the Philippines).
I would call the embassy and make sure the passport they are setting you up with isn't an emergency issue, which only lets you go back to Canada.
If it is, stop the process and get a temporary passport instead. This will entail applying for a citizenship card. However, if you have a birth certificate with you, they may wave this necessity. A temp passport is good for a year, but can be extended at any embassy.
If you have to apply for a citizenship certificate (which I did), you will have to mail some forms home for people to sign, attesting to your citizenship status. Upon receiving the signed forms, you will have to have them properly notarized (luckily this can be done locally). An official at the embassy can also act as a notary public, but it will cost an extra $75.00. I was in the Philippines, so it was cheaper to hire a local lawyer ($15).
The pictures you need for a citizenship card are not the same as those for a passport. Make sure to download the EXACT specifications from a Canadian government website (or get them from the embassy).
They will tell you that a citizenship card may take 6 months for processing. I included a letter with my application stating my dire situation, which resulted in a two-week processing time instead.
I hope things work out for you. I know it really sucks, but youll get through it.
Youre welcome to PM me if you need any more info, or if you just want to share a vent. |

They go pretty often, so unless you're arriving really early in the morning or late at night, you don't really need to worry about the times. Just showing up and waiting for the next one isn't inconvenient at all. |
