Need to buy some winter stuff online, just wondering how much I can ship into SK before I get hit with an import duty. I believe it's about 150,000won for technology (price plus shipping) - is it the same for clothing etc.? |

It greatly depends on how you ship it...if you have a friend or family member pull the tags off and send everything to you, you could probably fill up as big of a box as you'd like and it would go through no problem. I had my father send me a huge box of clothes a few years ago and there was no issue.
If you have the clothes sent directly from the retailer then you might be charged import duty. |

I've sent every package but one through USPS and never had an issue. A lot of my packages sent to me consist of materials well over 400 dollars. I've had an Ipod, new clothes, shoes, etc all in the same box. Never been taxed or bothered.
However, when I went through FedEx, I had to pay 60,000 won on the package. I would say the package was worth about $300.00
Just go through USPS. |

It appears that 150,000 won (price including shipping) is the ceiling after which Korean customs starts charging import duties. Read more at:

Before shopping online, it is important to note that the advertised price on a seller's web-site is not always the same as the total price that you might end up paying. It is because if the total value of the goods (the purchase price plus freight and insurance) exceeds 150,000 Korean won (about US$ 120), you need to pay Customs duties and taxes. |

I think it has a lot to do with the packaging and the delivery service they use as well as the amount...
example..I f I buy from victorias secret I get stung with a huge import tax of about 40 000 won each time...
but
I f I buy from american eagle (as I mostly do) I never get stung with an import tax (and its about 130 - 200 usd worth of clothing)
my theory is the packaging and the packing slips on the exterior...
victorias secret is in a white bag with many packing slips with amounts etc on the outside in plain view
vs
american eagle's navy blue bag with discreet packing slips
who knows for sure
but like someone said it does depend on the merchandise too |

Maybe the men working at Korean Customs are very interested in what you are getting from Victoria's Secret and need to inspect the package to satisfy their curiosity?

I have clothes shipped to me every month, but its first shipped to my parents house, then they ship it to me.
They ship it via UPS. Pop off the tag, change the box and declare it as used clothing. |
