Have had a quick look but can't find any info on this. Do I need to get a return ticket before coming to Korea? Will they ask to see the return portion at Customs? Thing is, with a year long contract and tickets only valid for a year, it's kind of difficult to get one! Thanks.

You don't need a return ticket for entering Korea. I've entered Korea numerous times with a one-way ticket on a working visa (E-2) and as a tourist. I've never had any issues with an immigration officer. If you come in as a tourist the officer will usually just ask you what you're doing here. I respond with "visiting friends," or "on vacation." Don't worry; you'll be fine.
