So, my girlfriend just told me a funny story. She went to go eat dinner with her parents and their closest friends, both of whom's daughters are going out with a foreigner (Me, and the other girl is going out with an Englishman in Japan). As they were talking about it, my girlfriend's father kept drinking more and more, and his stomach was getting worse and worse, to the point where he couldn't walk. They had to leave the restaurant as soon as possible. At which point, he took an Alka-Seltzer and felt much better, and my gf just asked me to buy her more Alka-seltzers while i'm in the states for her dad :\

wtf.

haha, the point is, this man is putting too much pressure on my gf. I don't understand why they would go ape [mod edit] crazy because his daughter is going out with a foreigner, and we are in a very serious relationship, I can't imagine if we actually get to the point when we want to marry. Would he jump off a building?

^ Don't worry that won't happen if you're refering him to an ape, making fun of him that way.

what a respectful ways to refer your "serious" relationship.

first off, what would be considered excessive drinking in North America is fairly commonplace in Korea, it's just a cultural thing.

As for the worry about her dating a foreigner- that's normal parental stuff too I think. The chances of him losing a daughter, rather than gaining a son increase substantially if the potential son in law is from a foreign country and doesn't speak the same language. My own father, who has never once given me reason to think of him as a racist told me, "Please don't get married and stay over there", when I was about to leave for Korea.

In other news, I saw a door ding in a car door yesterday. I don't really know why there would be a dent there.

I didn't call him an ape, its an expression. Basicly he went crazy and drank to excess (even in korean standards).

There is no 'drinking to excess' by Korean standards.

It is when my girlfriend had to wake up at 2:30 in the morning (the day before she has to take her TOEIC writing test) and drive him to the hospital.

I thought the issue was about being asked to buy Alka Seltzer. What's so bad about that? You can get 3 pack bottles back home for like 7000won.
