I understand that recruiters get paid about 1mil by the hagwon or PS but what I don't know is whether if they receive money upfront or do they get it after? I'm guessing they have a contract of some sort. Can anyone fill me in as I am interested in getting job contacts and becoming a recruiter myself eventually.

I'm not asking for criticism or flames just knowledge. Thank you very much.

Just like any assembly line factory worker, per head, calculated at the end of the work day.

It depends on the school and the recruiter. Some recruiters get paid 7 days after the teachers start working, others, 3 months. Most recruiters offer a 3 month guarantee on a teacher, others offer 6. If a teacher quits or is fired within 3 months, the recruiter will replace that teacher for free.

Just my opinion, E_athlete, not fact, but from my years in China and brief stint in Korea, it seems to me that most recruiters are native citizens of that country, or at least of origin of that country (i.e. gyopos who speak the language) as they must deal with domestic employers. These guys are more freelance-type recruiters, representing a long list of employers; many of whom speak little or no English.

Yes, a number of expats work in a recruiting capacity as well. I've dealt with quite a few of them directly, but the ones I knew where all on staff of the school they were representing. They were all recruiting for one (perhaps two) schools only. As part of their managerical/adminstrative duties for the school (they usually did no teaching, but perhaps were teachers there previously) recruiting and interviewing perspective teachers was part of the deal.

I'd be quite curious to know if there are indeed expat, freelance recruiters. Maybe yes, but based on 6 years experience in the ESL world, I never encountered one myself.

Rowan Hall with ESL Planet is an expat, freelance recruiter, I think. Although I don't know if he speaks Korean himself or if he works with others who speak Korean.

In my own brief experience of recruiters, I've found it's normally the "whiteys" who don't call when they say they will etc.

Claire and Phil at Eslstarter run their own recruiting agency. They are British.

Yea I know of a few expat run recruiting companies (one of which I used). Most of them have at least one native Korean on hand, but some are completely foreigner run.
