I'm thinking about teaching in Korea this winter for a year or so after Uni (I'm here now taking summer courses at Yonsei)
what exactly are the typical hours? 40/week? 9-5?
The stuff I've read online is conflicting, anywhere from 40hrs/week to 20/week
also it seems like getting any kind of TEFL certification is more or less worthless in terms of extra $...is that true?
is it worth it in terms of teaching experience? |

It seems like typical jobs are around 25 - 30 hrs per week. Shifts depend on your school, there's usually an early shift that starts in the morning, and a late shift that goes from afternoon through the evening. If you're unlucky you might land split shifts.
Re: the certificate. Keep in mind that there is more competition for ESL jobs these days, what with the economic recession. I certainly plan on getting a TESL certificate before I leave, partially just for myself so that I have some idea of how to actually teach (usually beneficial ), and a decent certificate will make you a bit more competitive compared to the masses that just have a degree. That's my opinion anyways. |
