hi all. just need something cleared up. I am leaving my job in two weeks and i am looking at a couple of positions. I know what i need to for a new visa but there seems to be some confusion between immigration offices ( no shocks there then ).

criminal check. I have one, but it is dated march 2008. Will this do? I've ordered a new one but it will take some time. Also, i read somewhere about them doing away with the apostile stamp. Is this true?

transcripts. Again, I have some but they are from 2007. Also again, I can get new ones but it would be nice to tell a new boss i have everything in place now.

Apart from those, I am all set. As you may have guessed, Immi have me on file from a hagwon in 2006 and public school for two years if that makes any difference.

Cheers anyways.

You need a new criminal check. It must be State or Federal. This was changed within the last week. You can get away without the Apostille stamp, and have it notarized by the US embassy. NOTE. If you have been at your current place of employment for 9 months or more, you can transfer your visa. You will need a Letter of release, and the new school must take on your visa the very next day. If you can do this, then you don't need the CRC or transcripts. But, I have heard that some Public schools don't issue LORs. *Edit: You do need either the Apostille or the US embassy notarization.*

Transcripts: Technically they are supposed to be no older than 3 months. But it really depends on the immigration officer dealing with you. I have had transcripts older than 3 months turned down, I have had transcripts older than 3 months accepted.

Unforetunately, it doesn't matter if you are on file with Immigration. One would hope that they have this information already, and therefore, going through the same hoops over and over becomes redundant. But alas, that is what they do.

I am pretty sure that criminal record checks are useless if SIX months out of date. As far as I know that transcripts do not expire as long as they are sealed and your University tanscripts have changed ala gone back to University, not yet recieved your degree, etc.

Looking back at your post - YA your need a new CRC as it is from 2008. I thought 2009 March for a minute.

Just did a quick google check
Vancouver consulate - 6months for CRC

The others I can not find quickly but I am pretty sure 6 months.

thanks guys.
yeah, looks like i need a new crim check. I'm from the U.K and asked for it this week just to be safe. Legally, they have to do it within 40 days but i think the last one took 3 weeks or so.
As for transcripts, no problem getting them. I may just get new ones to be safe.
I have an interview on Thursday so i think i'll just tell them i have a criminal check and just plead ignorance. My contract at P.S is up on 12th August so this new job won't start until september. therefore, no transfering visa which is a huge shame as it seems so easy!!
again, thanks for your help. I kind of guessing that but i wanted to be sure to put my mind at rest.
