I just read on some blog about the EPIK Orientation that they handle your bank account opening/mobile phone contract, and ARC application for you during the actual orientation, rather than letting you sort it all out by yourself when you get to your school. I.e. we fill out all the forms en-masse while we're there etc.

Is this true?

Sounds a lot easier for those of us who are new to Korea if it is, although seen as I'm a grumpy devil who only sends about 3 texts a month and never rings people I'll have to opt out of the phone contract and go for pay-as-you-go instead! 20,000 of credit should see me through the year Embarassed

Well, any info' welcome Very Happy

There's no real answer to this question because there are as many EPIK orientations as there are provinces and MOEs... plus, the 'national EPIK' orientation which, if I remember correctly, is being held in Jeonju this 'intake'.

If you don't want to do something 'en-masse', simply opt out and do it yourself (or with co-teacher's/handler's help) when you get to wherever you are going. An exception to this advice would be to take advantage of any 'deal' EPIK may have set up with Immigration to process your ARC (although, as far as I know, an ARC must be applied for at the Immigration office for the area in which you live).

You're welcome. I think we 'sound' similar... I'm a grumpy monkey. Wink

When I first arrived at my present job, my co-teacher/handler was a little flumoxed when the conversation went something like this -

"We will go now and get you a handphone."

"Thanks, but I don't want a handphone."

Shocked But... but you must have a handphone! Why you not want?

"Because then people will be able to phone me when I'm not at home."

Shocked But you must be available.

"I'm always availabe... just phone me at home."

"Oh... Ok, we will go now and get you a home phone."

"We don't need to... just phone KT and tell them to come and hook it up after 5:00 tomorrow."

"Oh... Ok, we will go now and open a bank account for you."

"I already have a bank account - Nonghyup."

"Oh... Ok we will go now to Immigration to get Alien Registration."

"Oh... Ok... now you're talkin'."
Cool
