Does anyone know if it is a general rule with all schools, public and private, in Korea to not hire anyone who does not have a perfect, clear criminal background record. I have a misdemeanor DUI on mine from 12 years ago and was told that they couldn't accept me because of it. Any insight into this situation? Surely not every single person teaching in Korea has a pristine, spotless record. And, don't they drink like fish there? I suppose it could make the visa process difficult or something, but I'm just looking for some clarification. Thanks. Sarah |

I'm no expert but there are certain things you can do back home in order to try and get certain "charges" removed, sealed, expunged. So, for a basic check, it would not show, but of course, it would show up on a deeper check...but that's not what you need for Korea.
I just found this in 30 sec. on Google.
Expungement is not the only option available to people who wish to clear their criminal records. Most jurisdictions have systems whereby people can apply for pardons. While an expungement is typically issued by the court in which a person was convicted of a crime, a pardon is an executive action which can partially or fully lift the effects of the conviction. Another option is to seal a criminal record.
Get some legal aid and find out what your options are. Good luck. |
